Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror, during a LD? wow!

I have a question for some experienced LD'ers out there. I am still new to this whole thing although finding it more amazing all the time.. but anyway... this morning I had 2 LD's. I walked past the bathroom, and noticed my reflection.. and kind of thought twice about looking at the mirror for a second.. I have heard several times on these forums that looking in the mirror can easily turn your LD into a nightmare because you sometimes will see something horribly disfigured lol, but I bit the bullet and said F it. I walked over to the mirror and looked at myself, i looked mostly normal, so i walked up very close and started examining my face.. I noticed that up close, I looked very close to waking, but just slightly different. Not disfigured to say the least.. but it was very incredible.. all the detail was there, i just looked slightly different... has anyone else ever looked in the mirror and really taken a good look at yourself while in an LD? I did run around and do some other things, but this is particularly what my question is... I would be very interested in hearing some of your input...

Well i havn't looked in the mirror while Lucid coz im only still new too ;) but i have looked in the mirror heaps of times before in my dreams and they were all normal looking??? ive always thought it was just what happens to me :/ might not work on all people i suppose

Well looking in the mirror while dreaming is different because your logic center and awareness is completely shut down.. you could look in the mirror and see a dragon and somehow it would seem completely normal, especially if you look in the mirror and the reflection is only slightly different, you would never remember anything being out of place, but in this case, being lucid, your logic center is awake, and your conscious so you will notice anything out of place.. it was a very interesting experience for me.. as a lucid dreamer, i feel like somehow this was an interesting first leap for me.. i mean, i have already learned that I can control anything I want in a LD.. most anything, and im only 8 LD's in... but this was an interesting experience for me, and I would suggest anyone who hasnt done it yet, to do it.. its hard to explain, but its very enlightening when it comes to LDing... seeing yourself, your dreamself, right there in front of you in the mirror.. I dunno, maybe im a dork, but this was a big thing for me.. lol.

I certainly have! Problem for me is, it's hard for me to DIRECTLY see myself- even if I'm trying to in a LD. That goes with looking at really ANYTHING in a LD. I wish I knew why :P. I will see if I can find this one LD of mine where I saw myself fairly well in the dream- I was surprised how I looked so much like I do...Well, you can just read it.

The blue part is the lucid part. I had a different system when I typed this dream up :P.

It is dark (at this point it doesn't seem like I have the baby anymore), and I want to make it day. I believe I say to make it day, but it doesn't work. Instead, I thought of it more gradually turning bright, starting at the horizon, this did work, butthere was a lot of stormclouds, one in particular straight up, which were bothering me. I woke up, so I couldn't do anything about them.

EDIT: I remember in one LD (I looked at it without thinking, it was right there. It was from a long while ago, now.) I was a human, but my head and chest looked like my CAT :shock:. I was the same size...I think I was a little freaked!

You're not a dork; I felt the same way first time I looked in a mirror in an LD. I was SO amazed at the level of detail, and that I looked just like I had gotten out of bed, too. I was wearing the same clothes and my hair was all messed up :cheeky:. When I laughed with joy at my success (this was just my second LD ever) I noticed every tooth was exactly like it is in real life. :D

I've seen myself in mirrors several times since then, and never once has it come close to being a nightmare experience. I think that would only happen if you expect to see something horrible in it. Expect it to just be a mirror and that's what it will be. I've even used mirrors to assist in shapeshifting, so I know I'm getting things how I want them to be, and I didn't transform into monster that tried to eat me or something. :)

Ya, that makes a lot of sense, Im going to shape shift into a nude female with DD's, and just stare at myself lol.. jk.. shapeshifting sounds cool though, I may give that a shot when I get a little further.. im still getting my technique down.. but so far, 7 LD's in just a few weeks isnt bad lol

7 LD's in a few weeks? Most noobs would KILL to have that many.

Well, I will tell you if you want to know...but sometimes I feel as though I'm bragging when I tell the story (not that it's that long). And as though no one cares...

Well...I just had my first one 3 years ago, then started to get them last year about in March...Had a good "small handful" of them, then I got into the dream dictionary online, and looked up LDing (once I learned the word). DV a bit later the Beginning of April (my one year DV aniversary is Saturday), and I got more easily, and knew lots of things already, considering I was a noob :P. My discussions were pretty "informed" like yours seem to be :D.

Now, you know why :P.

Then how come when we see people flying we remember it? we see things going through walls, we remember it? yer we think its normal at the time but when we wake up we still think "why was he flying?" etc so if i looked in the mirror and saw a foot looking back at me, i would proberly think its normal and walk away but when i wake up i would think "hmmm ok so tonight my face was a foot" you don't have to be lucid to see the weird things in your dreams :P

To answer the question, yes, mainly when I heard the dream would turn into a nightmare here in DV, I mean, I like nightmares and all, so of course would try it, to my dissapointment... I was completely normal and just got to play with my hair-style a while <.<

Well what I meant was that during the dream, when NON-LUCID, everything will pretty much seem normal because the logic center is off.. when LUCID, the logic center is on so these things seem very abnormal, hence you will know things arent right... and definitely just LD'ing...

Come to think about it... One time i went into my bathroom while Lucid and put my hand through the wall but i never even saw my reflection. Maybe i am a vampire.

Last night I had a lucid and did this. I was kinda surprised that I looked exactly like myself in real life. The only thing is that when I glanced in the background I saw a scary ghost child staring back at me. It was kinda creepy :P.

OK, guys, so you've looked at yourselves in mirrors before in LD's. Well...lots of you :P. Has anyone ever tried to, though, see how their face moves relative to how it feels like it's moving, and what's in the reflection?

In my dream that I posted, I did this, and I did look like myself, really, but the movements weren't QUITE right- but not bad.

Well, a few years ago, in one of my false awakenings...

It was the middle of the night. I had that uneasy sensation that I always get in nightmares. The feeling that I'm in danger. I got out of bed, and walked to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror.
My mirror-image suddenly bared its now-sharp pointed teeth at me, with evil in its eyes, and lashed out viciously. I fell onto my back and woke up IRL.

Weird. In my recent, very short lucid dream, I actually looked in a mirror. I thought something bad would happen, but my reflection was mainly normal, except it didn't really look like me.
I didn't look in it for long, because of the nightmare I just described.

A couple days ago I had a false awakening where I got up, went up to the mirror and started doing reality checks. I remember looking mostly the same, but different... it's hard to describe, and I probably had the same experience Atkins232 had. Oh and all the reality checks passed, as in they failed to show that I was dreaming..

I looked at myself in a lucid once or twice and examined my face. It was very accurate for the most part, except my eyes were wide and dark like a demon's. Didn't freak me out though; I thought it was pretty cool.

I know I did. The most memorable mirror experience was my second ever intentional LD, and of course I was careful to compare it all to real life because the whole thing was so intriguing to me. I honestly don't remember movements being off at all. All muscles and bones were operating normally as far as I could tell.

I haven't paid much attention in other LDs with mirrors, though. They're always just normal-looking, normally-functioning mirrors for me, so I don't spend a lot of time at them any more.

After looking at yourself, you should try walking through the mirror to the other side and see what happens. I did it before and I sifted through the mirror and into a room comprised of crayon, crayon desks, little crayon people, crayon everything.

The one time I did look in a mirror, I looked just like myself, but with glasses. I've work contact lenses for 5 years now but it still recalls me back to my glasses days.

I thought it was funny, but the level of detail in lucid dreams all together is outstanding!

I've never thought of looking in a mirror in dreams before, I'll try it! :D

I have, but my reflection was normal
