I just had another dream in which I realize I'm dreaming, and then I say, "Oh my god, this is a..." but when I try to say "dream", my jaws get all stiff and I can never say the word.
Why is this? Does this happen to anyone else?

Are you prevented from even thinking the word? Or just from saying it out loud? And does this prevent you from becoming truly lucid (I'm guessing not, because you say that you realize you're dreaming)?
I can't say that I've ever had anything like that happen.
I just can't say it, I guess I can still think it. I don't know about it preventing me from becoming lucid, although I usually do wake up a few seconds after this happens, when it happens.
Hmm... maybe you could try making up some nonsense word, let's say "finzelbork", which you will define in your own language as meaning "dream". Then you could say, "Oh my god, this is a finzelbork!"
I have no idea if that would help, just a wild idea that popped into my head. :)
:chuckle: Heh, well, that actually sounds like it might work. I'll try it out next time -- thanks!
Huh, so nobody else has had this happen?
can't say it's ever happened to me. But then, i never say that phrase while i'm dreaming. I've never even tried to say dream while i was dreaming.
In the one time I've been lucid, I didn't talk the entire time. I simply thought to myself, "I am dreaming, aren't I?" and everything became crystal clear.
That's never happened to me, but most of the time when I become lucid I think "This is a dream" instead of saying it.
that's pretty cool. I can't say my jaw has ever locked up in a dream before though, but my vision has. and it sucks. anyway, have you ever lucid dreamed before rak?
Ummm, yeah. :eh:
It's just that sometimes, this happens...most other times I just have the realization without vocalizing it, like everybody else, apparently. I only try to say it some of the time.
Edit: I had an LD last night, and I said, "I'm dreaming" aloud and nothing happened -- besides me going lucid. I must be getting better; it must be a control (or lack of it) thing.
