Is lucidity something that only happens in dreams, or can you become lucid in the waking world as well? Just a little something to think about. (Sorry about the short intro post, but it's past my bedtime.)

The physical plane is another dream where the wheels of change turn slowly. Awareness of the control we have over our own lives is power. Those of us who lucid dream frequently may get frustrated at the lack of power in our waking lives. Though, the same power we have in dreams is basically the same we have in the waking world.To be more specific, I would say that it's the second type of lucidity, (the first being awareness of dreaming), which is awareness that we have control in dreams.
Awareness of control in waking life is waking lucidity. We, as humans, with our brains and our opposable thumbs are so much more powerful than we realize, as individuals. Waking up to the power within requires dispelling negative self-defeating thoughts, just as in dreams.
You can fly if you believe you can. Let us examine this idea. If you believe you cannot fly in dreams, you cannot. If you believe you can, you can. Now, let us consider the airplane. Before airplanes were invented, people had to believe it was possible to create a flying machine. Without that belief, no one would try to invent a flying machine. Today it seems very normal to get on an airplane, and fly to the other side of the world.
The dream plane is a realm of pure energy, where thought manifests in an instant. The physical plane is confined to a set of physical laws having to do with matter. But, all change in the world of humanity for good or ill, first begins with a thought. A fight, a war, begins with thoughts of malice. A rescue, a peaceful revolution, begins with thoughts of compassion. We have the power to change our own lives, and shape them into what we want them to be, with awareness of the dream nature of waking life, and the control we have over it, beginning with our thoughts which will inevitably lead to action, which literally creates the world of our lives, co-mingling with others' life-dreams.
To being personal human revolutions within ourselves, we must look in our mirrors with love and compassion, dispelling thoughts of self-hatred and victimization. Sometimes you have to hug yourself, and cry on your own shoulder, then become your own hero.
I think its possible. Certainly one can find degrees of lucidity both in the dream plane and in the waking world such as dreams where you know you are dreaming but have little control (my sadly rare lucid dreams are often this).
Sometimes when I wake up im so groggy that I can't do a single thing without a cup of coffee, and sometimes you just jump out of bed filled with energy.
So I suppose its possible to become lucid in the world. I've had states where everything I see has become so clear like my perception of reality has been washed. It didn't last more than a day but it was great!
I also believe like Nomad that your beliefs about things affect, if not physics directly like levitating(maybe even them under the right conditions), at the very least your own experience about physics and the waking. This is even more true in dreams wich I believe can show you your current deeply set beliefs.

=> Yes, we are lucid most of the time when awake.
I don't know about most of the time. I think waking lucidness is about as common as the sleeping variety, which makes it fairly rare. Otherwise we'd all be lucid a hell of a lot more in our dreams.Quote:

This is unless, you are making it to be that the meaning of "lucid" is something entirely different when you are awake.
I don't think it's the meaning of lucid that's the issue here, but the meaning of Consciousness. A notoriously difficult thing to define. What is waking consciousness, being aware of your surroundings? You're aware of your surroundings in dreams. You're free to think and act in non-lucid dreams just like you are in the waking world.Quote:

I always describe becoming lucid in my dreams as a lightbulb moment. That shift between auto-pilot and suddenly knowing where I am and what it means.
Sometimes I get that while being awake too. That sudden shift in consciousness and I start looking at the world around me like I've never seen it before. Everything just suddenly looks bright, and new, and I feel like I just 'woke up,' for real.
Interesting post. My only problem with the idea of different conscious or lucidity in life is that I've never experienced such a thing first hand. Yes, the dream world and real life are similar in thoughts and that is the starting point, however, as mentioned above, in dreams, thoughts manifest like that while in the real life, it's the thought that get you started. I still find it a bit difficult to imagine a different conscious in real life, because, I am always observing my environment, etc.... wherever I am, so, I don't see how there could be a higher level of conscious than that :PQuote:

Lucidity means that you know you are dreaming. In waking life, means that you know you are awake. I know 95% of the times that I'm awake, yet that doesn't make me lucid in dreams, again.
Lucidity is caused because your logical part of the brain, your memories, your rational self, become active.
