Well in my personal experience with stimulants (ephedra, caffeine, adderall)...they can aid in lucidity but only if you are able to get to sleep before it kicks in. If you don't get to sleep before it kicks in, you are going to have a really difficult time getting your body/mind to cooperate with you to have something like a WILD. If you aren't used to stimulants like whichever one you would be taking, you will probably find it impossible to get to sleep too.
They have helped me get lucid in the past when I would take them and then lay down to take a nap. So it would kick in about 30 minutes after laying down and I would usually already be asleep at that point. as soon as it would kick in I would become lucid if I was already inside a dream, or I would immediately become aware during the vibrational state.
I think it depends on when you are trying to sleep as well. It worked for me b/c I was napping very early in the day, therefore I was enjoying nice long REM periods. I'm not sure that it would work in the evening and most certainly not at night.
But if you aren't used to something as strong as speed you are not going to be able to sleep while on it at all.
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate that information :)
I'm not much of a speed king of guy, and my experience is pretty much limited to LSD (tried some so called mescaline once that I suspect was speed). On acid, all I seem to be able to achieve is a physical sleep, not a mental one, and only because I'm physically exhausted from being up all night. I'm just assuming the two would be somewhat similar, but it's difficult to enter full dreaming. I'd expect that the best you could accomplish is entering the hypnogogic state. Something like a controlled daydream. Hard to become fully involved in the dream in that state of mind.
