Do you think I should try that, i have never had a lucid dream, expect the few times when I was much younger. Dreams only last 2 hours(all your dreams per night). Do dreams feel longer than they actually are? If so maybe I should make an alternate life.
Hey mike. Welcome to dream views. I have thought about starting an alternate life in lucid dreams once I got better at stabilization and control. But I came to my personal conclusion that there was no point. You can do anything in lucid dreams and making an alternate life would get boring after a while imo.
And to your question of time. Time is relevant, subjective not objective. Have you ever sat in class and the time just flew by but for someone else they felt like they were there for hours? People all interpret time differently. I have read about people having dreams that lasted 50+ years in the matter of one dream cycle. So in reality you can get much longer time in dreams then your dream cycles last for.

Sometimes dreams do fell as if they last longer, false memories, movie-like motion, etc, welcome to DV too, and good luck with the DILD!
There is a limit on how long they can last, but all sorts of factors can make someone literally feel like they have lived a full lifetime in one night. This is pretty rare, but it does happen on occasion. Just remember this above all else: Any assumptions you make are limits, because once in an LD, you can do ANYTHING that you can ever imagine, often with ease. Keep an open mind, and have fun with it.
Also, as a newbie, don't get discouraged if you take a while to get your first one. Keep at it, and it will come. The first one will get you hooked, no matter how short. Good luck, and have fun here! Oh, by the way: *glomp*
How would one achieve a dream that lasted years? I've had dreams that have lasted quite awhile but were very short in reality.
I dont think you need to start an alternate life. I think a little more awareness, desire and effort will do the trick. Stick with Lucid dreams, it really is awesome!!

To the point, yes. It can be done. But its not a consistent experience. Kind of pointless. Why re-live life again but younger? Dreams can deliver so much more.
I don't think his interest in living a secondary-life should be discredited. Do we try to lucid dream things that are original for the sake of originality? I personally don't. I believe a secondary-life could produce interesting results. I realize that other members have posted their accounts already but everyone is different. It's not really that pointless. Life has so many possibilities. Who knows I think it would be interesting to have a secondary-life on another planet. Or as like some alien species you know? It's just my 2 cents.
Secondary life = escapism
Lucid goals and fun times = Entertainment
If you want to start an alternate life do it. It's your choice not ours. Have fun lucid dreaming.

OP, it's possible that you can stretch out time, but don't forget that your dream self likes shiny things. The likelihood of an alternate life holding your attention during a single dream? Not so high. You're welcome to try, and it might work for you, but it sounds like it could get boring.
Our dream-selves play out alternate characters all the time (or at least, mine do). By all means, replay your past, but don't forget you could be fighting off hordes of vampires as a demonic shapeshifting alien. On Jupiter.
This is what I'm currently trying to do... Build an alternative life where anything is possible, so I can get away from the constant issues of real life.
I mean, its not like I'm 'running away' from life; it's just that, we spend a lot of time sleeping, so why not have a second life that is... well, quite frankly, better.

First off I'd like to state entertainment all of it; Is escaping from life. There is nothing wrong with escaping from life every now and then. The problem would be in running away from life or just becoming apathetic about life. As long as you are responsible for yourself than a nice HEALTHY escape from reality is perfectly fine. Living a life more enjoyable than your current one isn't a bad thing at all. What do you think all those annie movies were for during the Great Depression? So people could cling on to a happier lifestyle.
Secondly, not everyone is like you and enjoys different things. I could care less about lucid goals personally. Whose to say that in a secondary-life you couldn't have fun? People think differently. Having goals work for some people like they do in life but for others a different approach is necessary. Perhaps he could meet his Anima in his secondary-life. He could do anything in his secondary-life. He could jump off a bridge and survive. It's when you define a secondary-life as being separate from a normal lucid dream you have a problem. The difference mainly would be that you assume a standard alternate alias and persona. Whereas in a normal lucid dream you are simply whatever you are that you wanna be. You are a different person and that is the point and the only point. Please offer positive feedback or none at all please. If you're going to dismiss someone be constructive about it.
Never limit your dreams you say but how is secondary-life a true limitation rather than a different way of experiencing a dream. Lucidity is what you make it and if you think it's about having fun than that's your choice. If it's about personal discovery power to you. Or if it is simply experiencing life in a what-if scenario. A secondary-life doesn't even have to be the focus of your dreams but rather something you continue every now and then much like a video-game.
I'd like to clarify that escaping life ain't the same thing as running away from it.

I agree, well said Irken. Except...
I think rather than saying you "could care less" for lucid goals, I think you mean you couldn't care less. The current generation get this expression wrong these days for some reason. To say you "could care less" means you care a certain amount and that amount quite feasibly could be less. To say you "couldn't care less" means you care so little that it would be impossible for you to care any less, which would mean you don't care at all.
Anyway, sorry to digress, it's just a bugbear of mine ;) As Irken said, there is nothing wrong with escaping from life every now and then, and as for having an alternate life... your dreamlife, whatever you choose to do, is an alternate life by it's very nature. Just go have fun :banana:
My first attempt failed :(
The alarm did not go off but something strange did happen, i dreamed about what i was going to do(wake up in middle of night get the thought of lucid dreams in my mind, go back to sleep and have a lucid). In the dream I woke up, went to the bathroom, and than i can remember everything else EXCEPT my dream trailing off and becoming weird and crazy.
Going to attempt again today, this time with a louder alarm that lasts longer

I can't nap, never have, once I wake up it is almost impossible for me to nap
