"Trippy" subconscious exploration?

If you've read my post in the Newbie Zone, you'll know I'm starting a band with a lot of prog rock influences (bands such as tool and Pink Floyd) and I would like to get into some subconscious exploration. Dream guides would be a good start. I'm also interested in things such as intuition. For example, in a lucid dream, using my subconscious intuition (a collection of conscious data analyzed only subconsciously) to possibly hear music, but also incorporate some experiences into lyrics. Any ideas?

Ive had some experiences with music (from my brain) and sleep...

Actually i remember two of them clearly, the first one is in a dream, where i was hanging around a house and i saw a tunnel which led to inside that house basement, and i was drawn to the tunnel because i could hear sound comming out of it. When i came close enough, i could hear "Across the universe" from the beatles, sang by Jimi Hendrix... I didnt realize how weard of a song that actually was until i woke up :P

Second one was in sleep paralysis, i would hear parcels of baroque music (1 solo violin, 3 second, violas, cello, and a harpischord) The music would sound very loud in my hear, stop, then continue in rythm as if my brainwas inventing it. It sounded much like some of bachs music but it was nothing like i ever heard of him... (anyways my sub couscious probably knows the whole bach repertoire by now). This music really had a personnal touch from me... since then i start to get to sleep paralysis to hear music again, but i cant manage to do it.

I bet sleep paralysis is the way to go for this, as there are stories of artists writing huge poems while asleep, and i know sometime when im sleeping i cant think pretty fast some amazing ideas... I can tell you how to get to SP, but i couldnt help on how to actually compose music... if i ever manage to do this again, ill give you some tips if i can :P

I was just looking for information on sleep paralysis on the web after watching a program on TV where people were convinced that were being abducted by aliens at night. I was amused by the fact that I had also experienced numerous similar nocturnal events from a very young age which also involved seeing or sensing a presence in the room, hearing sounds etcetera. I was relieved when a Japanese scientist explained that this is called 'kanashibari' (steel bars) in Japan and is a widely acknowledged phenomenon; not seen as paranormal or abnormal.

You are aware of this, no doubt, but what I thought might be an interesting addition to the great info on your site on this subject is that it is in fact a very useful state for artists: especially musicians. (I am a university graduate musician). In this state, all the senses are heightened and the imagination is unfettered by inhibitions and various creative blocks that plague the mind in the completely wakened state. One night years ago, when I was 'caught' in this self-hypnosis I found that I could create and vividly hear music of incredible complexity and beauty. I could listen to full brass sections playing complex harmonies with a piano and and then without any serious effort - I could just 'will it' to happen - and without missing a beat, Introduced a massive cascade of violins and violas, and so forth. All this required no conscious utilization of any theoretical principles I had learned in University. Unfortunately, I have not as of yet been able to retain or compose any of the music I create when in the state, but for me, it is exciting to be so close to what can only be described as the infinite hidden genius of the human mind. Conversely, with so much power at its command, but driven by fear, it is no wonder to me that sleep paralysis leaves some people seriously doubting their sanity, or in some cases driven from it quite completely.

If you want to start using your intuition and subconscious in your dreams, use them in waking life as well. By doing this, at least for me, it makes the transition easier to remember, use and more fluid in the dream state.

I can back this up! It happens just as easily in a lucid dream as well as SP too. If possible, wake yourself up and get it written down/recorded as fast as you can after hearing it, that shit doesn't stick around for long.
