How long can you sustain lucidity?

I have been lucid dreaming for quite a while (at least 10 years off and on) but I seem to have a problem sustaining lucidity. Usually it seems like I will be dreaming for a while, then get a dream sign or something weird that makes me realize I am dreaming so I go lucid. But after that point I will only be lucid for about 30 seconds or maybe a minute and then I will wake up. Not sure if I am getting too excited or what but I always seem to wake up prematurely. Am I the only one with this problem? Any possible solutions?

This is a rather common problem.

Tips:

1) when you go to bed, expect to become lucid. It won't be so surprising if you're expecting it.
2) Anchor yourself in the dream. A lot of info can be found on this in the dream control tutorial.
3) Relax when you become lucid. You have all the time in the world....
