What if: Sleep Walking + Night Terror - Lucid Dreaming = Happy Quietful Night?

Hello,

first, it's been a long time since I've come here! I used to try lucid dreaming 2 years ago. Managed to do it some times, but then life stopped me from doing it. Now I've decided to move on and try to lucid dream again!

Anyways, I have a girlfirend, and she has a bit of a problem, lol, she sleep walks and, rarely but importantly, has night terror too! She behaves in a sleep walky kind of way almost every night, like suddently laughing out loud, sitting down on her bed and start talking gibberishly or, which I find most amusing, sits down suddently while pointing at some random object in the room and saying "Uuooohhh!!" like she meant "OMG OMG LOOK LOOK WOW"!! The night terrors are more rare, but happen once every month when all is well, or once a week when she is stressed with her studies and all.

The sleep walking seems to be unrelated to dreaming, she simply does it. But the night terror are always dream related! She always remembers her night terror inducing dream, like, for instance, when she was in the bedroom and it was filled with spiders! And if she said any word, the spiders would all attack her! And bam! she says something and all hell brakes loose! And all I know is that she is jumping over her bed and out of the room at full speed, screeming at the top of her voice, while not lucid (she is in the sleep walking state)!

Anyways, I wonder if, by training, she could become lucid when faced by some weird threat and not have a night terror. Anyone ever heard about that?

i have no idea but when i was a kid i got this orrible dream that my pareents gave me to robots that lived in my closet but my room was painted pink hmm

If she is dreaming, it is possible for her to become lucid. I don't know if that would be of much use for night terrors, though, which occur during NREM sleep and are not usuallly associated with dreaming. Normally people with night terrors go to a sleep specialist to get treated for the disorder.

There is actually no treatment for it, just calming pills to be taken if the person is feeling stressed at night.

So do your comments mean that it is impossible to LD during NREM dreams? That hardly seems correct, though I may be very, very wrong.

But if I'm right, and you can LD during NREM, then she could practice lucidity to manipulate the terrors. Like many others, nightmares taught me to LD. It could work for her too.

No, it's definitely possible to become lucid during NREM dreams. I only meant that Night Terrors is usually not associated with dreaming. The things that people experience during night terrors, unless I am mistaken, are really more of a form of hallucinations than dreams.

Oh OK I think I understand. She's actually physically awake, but her mind is, to some extend, still asleep? Compressing the dream and reality into one? That makes sense; I know that a large percentage of alien encounters have been chalked up to SP, so this must be a similar experience.
