Alrighty, as far as I know theres not a thread on this already.
I'm at a stage where I've had heaps of fun so far in lucid dreams, and am ready to begin looking at more practical things to accomplish.
So I'm wondering, what is the most beneficial thing that people out there have accompished that has benefited their waking life? Solved a problem, had an idea, gained information, conquered fear, etc? You tell me.
Well, I'm not sure if this is considered waking life, but I conquered my nightmares which I no longer have, and I now get more sleep. (More REM means more chances to get luci :D )
In Alcibiades 1, Plato distinguishes between what one is and what one is not. Since the human mind has a function, the most important thing that one could accomplish is to exercise that functionality.
Try this; ask the question, Has Lucid dreaming any real value? as one enters the state.
I've learned to be more carefree and take life less seriously.
I've learned to be more aware and careful in everything I do. It also gives me a place to be completely free and entertained anyway I want.
its made me more aware in everyday life and has given me a greater appreciation for everything around me.
Discipline, fun, mindfulness, happiness.
Lets see, fun, chances at exploring another world, living another life, testing stuff from waking in dreams (Biology, chemistry, etc) and teaching me that anything alive should be respected!
I read in a Stephen Laberge book that there is plenty of self improvement application possible.
Has anyone tried those techniques ?
Yes, the greatest of these is that I got older, much, much older.
I have noticed that when one is in emotional need, one is not told what to do, but is given an environment where one can take advantage of what is in that environment to help themselves.
For example, if one is being dragged backword to a black abiss, one will find things to hold onto. etc.,
But self-improvement is, just between you an I, is a violation of one of the first principles of language--relation to self. (actually a violation of the first principle of any environmental acquisition system) Since we learn from the environment, it is not self-improvement, but improvement of the self by the environment.
I've realized that life is a dream, and that dream control applies to reality in the same way that it does to dreams.
Back in 2006 I was in a nasty run away car and developed a strong fear of driving for about a year. I was able to use lucid dreaming to overcome it. :)
What's helped me are actually the reality checks. After waking from a nightmare, I used to be terrified that I'd still be dreaming. Now, of course, I just do a reality check. There are two good things about this: one, I can relax knowing that I'm not still in a nightmare, and two, I can get a free lucid out of a false awakening.
Other than that, LDs have helped me become more creative because I can observe the dream world more closely than ever.
I've learned that it's okay to burn and destroy anything I want, because no-one pays attention and then I can rebuild it using cotton balls for fun :)
Kidding, of course - if you really want to get something beneficial to your waking life out of lucids, exercise your brain there. You can't do anything to affect the physical world in your head, but you can improve your thought processes and reconsider your philosophical beliefs there :D

Same that I was thinking. Even though I've only had 2 and they were short, the second one I had was extremely clear. I will never forget that. I was in shock how realistic it was. In a way almost more realistic than in real life. I don't know how to explain it. I m not sure to get that eitheir, as far as i understand it, you meant that you subconscious mind will create a type of dream that will enable you to get insight of some sort. Can you confirm and explain ?Quote:

Do you for sure learn from the environment ? Maybe for some poeple that like to get lesson out of life and that is willing to evolve but many people juste relive over and over the same experience without getting anything out it.Quote:

In the same veine i once heard that a pick up artist use lucid dreaming to try some technique without having approche anxiety but i guess that it must not be as valuable as in the real world as there reactions can change from girls to girls even tough most people act pretty much in the same way.
I never had any lucid dream yet so i don t realy know, what do you think ? Can our subconscious mind integreate a valuable "average people reaction" to social experiment ?
I learned that dreaming could actually have purpose. There was a time when I cursed sleeping because I felt it was wasted time. Now I look forward to exploring my dreams and, ocassionally, molding them into worlds of my creation.
Maybe this sounds silly but when I LD I feel special. Because I am in MY world that I created and I really feel like I can just be me. I feel such an exhiliration from being able to recognize a false awakening and know that when I spring out of bed I'll be in a grand gown and that when I leave my bedroom and glide serenly (for in my dreams I always glide serenly) to the front door and throw it open I will be in a beautiful sunlit garden and a palace will be just beyond that hill. I am Queen of my kingdom and I feel beautiful and I have a special purpose while I'm there. No one can take it away from me and no matter what happens around me if I lost my job, or my freedom, in my sleep, in my dreams my world is there waiting for me on the occasions that I make it. I could use more practice :) And like others of you have said, I feel so proud that my mind can create such a beautiful and detailed place that I feel like there is much more that I can accomplish in my waking world if I put my mind to it. I also remember I think it was in the third Harry Potter film (can't remember if it was in the book) Dumbledore says, "For in dreams we enter a world that is entirely our own." I've never heard anything more true.
First of all, I started lucid dreaming back in the late 50's--I had no sources--especially from the uniformed--about what it was or what to do. I once thought I was working with my own mind--but if you go far enough, are honest enough, are driven enough, you will might learn things that would scare the hell out of a sane person--untill you understand.Quote:

Have you ever considered that religions were formulated by those who never took the trip, many are complete frauds. Source material and certain events may have significance quite different from the myths of the ignorant.
I have taken as my guide, the validity of any source material is directly related to how it is designed to improve the mind. Thus, the Judeo-Christian Scripture rates high, while the works of Einstein low. The works of Euclid high, but non-euclidean geometry very low.
Yes to be honest that what i think for the moment, that it s a pure construction of your subconscious mind. Well that s what the main psychological movement teach us and it is for sure true at least to some extent. I have done a psychotherapie and you can t denied that dream deliver clue about our deep tought about situations and peoples. Also, you can have some great experience by hypnosis, i used to do it on a GF and she was going tought a lot of crazy world and when i asked her about it she answered that it was as real as life. I doubt that anything esoterical happened there honestly, it was a pure construction of her mind.
Now there might be more, i don t know. A member previously posted that he met his girlfriend in a dream before meeting her, this is clearly not a construction of the subconscoius mind.
Hey clearly the human mind have great yet unknown, we can read some pretty crazy story of poeple who have great ability. I remember having read books from mary summer rain who is a indian shaman. There is a post on this forum by a women who talk about meeting your animus and anima.
I hope that it s true, i m looking forward to have my first.
Why are you talking about religion btw, I m far to bee a expert but as far as i know, they don t talk about lucid dream or develloping other capacity in fact, they pretty much scared us about that and urge us not to get involve in it. To be it s seems that they teach a realy down to earth life, kind like eat, pray and work until you died and then you will be granted the gift to join the wonderful real of god.
Btw I read in a remote viewing book that a lot a remote viewers have greater result during lucid dreams than in real life...
