Dream Guide encounter talking about Jesus?

I THINK I may have met a dream guide (non lucid), or simply a quirky character.

He was standing on a street corner underneath a lamp post where the sidewalk and streets were all cobblestone. He wore a rain coat of sorts and besides that I couldnt really see his face or remember it, but he was telling a story of a dream of his, which was about Jesus.

He spoke like a stand up comedian, or a teacher. His dream, that he was talking about went like this, starting off with advice: "Dont write down any dreams about Jesus unless you get permission. One time I had a dream and I had no idea it was Jesus, I was in a single room office (or something) and my head was too big to get into the door, and it was hitting the pipes, but he told me his name was James Charleston (can't exactly remember the name but the initials were indeed JC). I felt like were were just in this room with the thinnest barrier from the outside world in the middle of the dessert. and I was looking all around the room for dream signs, at the table and floor and walls, but I didn't notice a woman holding a child, and when i realized what I saw and who they were I realized 'Holy shit!' I'm dreaming"

and then thats when I woke up. With HIS telling of the story that he was dreaming and NOT MY realization.

Possible Dream Guide?

Also I'd be happy to answer any questions for further investigation or such. :)

Why do you think that he may be any different than any other DC?

P.S. not trying to sound like a critical anti-religious jerk, it's an honest question.

There's no such thing really as a concrete "dream guide". Nowhere in your brain is it hard-wired for their to be one character who is substantially more aware of his surroundings than the rest. In theory, you can make any dream character a dream guide at will. However, dream characters only have as much power as you give them. In fat, they don't even exist. All dreams are are ideas that your subconscious brain has put forth and simulated sensual input with. Thing only happen as you expect them to happen in dreams, so if you expect a DC to be powerful he will be.

Also, there is no god (but I'll leave that for R and S)

It's definitely possible. The best thing to do would be to become lucid and ask him.

Unfortunately Conkt, I don't agree with anything you just said, except for the fact that dreams are about what happens to us in our daily life, though I don't want to have a large argument with you (I'm Catholic :P )

To answer your question, he could be your dream guide, although you really have to become lucid and ask him to find out. Some say a DG is just a recurring DC, others say it is just complete nonsense, and some say it is your subconscious guiding you through itself (what I think)

@Conkt: Dream~Guides could be as simple as the other side of your dual mind being able to interface with you as your Dream~Guide, It makes sense that they would help you because you are fundamentally them :)

@ReachingfortheDream: I just feel like instead of talking to my dream self he was talking to my waking self. If that makes any sense. And dont worry about sounding like a jerk or anything, The fact that he was talking to Jesus was just... weird even to me.

I have had reoccurring DC's but mainly family, friends, and Amanda Palmer from the Dresden Dolls. Besides that all other characters I've only noticed once in a dream. Should I just wait to see if he comes back?

That night I tried MILD and Sleep Paralysis, I think from what I've read, but didn't get farther than having my arms go numb and a few other smaller sensations around my legs. I woke up at 3 and tried a WBTB after eating a spoonful of Peanut Butter and a glass of AJ then tried to go back to sleep but couldn't for another 2 hours. I told myself "I'm going to recognize I'm dreaming next time I'm dreaming" and tried counting myself to sleep "1, I'm dreaming, 2, I'm dreaming...." Those seemed to fail too. Then my alarm went off at 7 and tried to WILD, which failed

Should I try just one technique? or would smashing them all together be somewhat effective but maybe I just need to try something differently?

Also for those who believe in Dream Guides or with Experience with such: What was the experience like and how did you come about it?

I disagree Conkt, I logically think that everything you can touch, smell and feel is real - internal or external.
Though I must agree the relationship itself between a "real dream guide" and a "created one" is different, albeit it is all about YOU, Your expectations, so it might as well be the same.
It is my opinion, fell free to oppose:)

P.S I don't think anyone here can say that it isn't your DG.

Last night I had a dream where I was in a Workshop type meeting circle but we were talking about Lucid Dreaming. So I'm thinking its my mind trying to realize its dreaming but I'm not quite getting there yet. If I see that man again though I might be more convinced. I Do still believe in dream guides though.

I agree with everything you said.

In my opinion, dream guides only seem special because you're putting more focus or attention on them than regular DCs. But just because I don't think there's a spiritual aspect to them doesn't mean I think they're useless. They're still interesting DCs and a familiar face that you can converse with during a dream.

Things in Lucid Dreams are as real as you make them. If you conjure up a DC and have it care deeply for you, it's easy to bond with that DC just like you would a girlfriend or boyfriend IRL. So if there's a mysterious DC who may show up on more than one occasion, you can easily start to think of them as your dream guide and then they are.

As for the idea of them being a representation of your subconscious mind, I think I agree with that. After all, isn't all the random things that happen and the other DCs made from your subconscious mind?


It doesn't really matter if you think dream guides are real ethereal beings or just something your mind created, because they'll still be just as real either way. Dream logic ftw.

Many people believe in dream guides.
Few people have met one.
Almost none can summon them.

Dream guides are but constructions of the dreaming mind, just as any other dream character is. Of course your dream characters can represent aspects of your subconscious, for that's what dream are, but unless you are a victim of extreme schizophrenia or multiple-personality disorder, there is no other sapient mind within your brain who only talks to you in dreams.

Furthermore, what you believe generally means nothing. However, in the case of dreams, what you believe dictates the outcome of the dream. Believe in a dream guide does not make them real, but it does generate a dream about a very powerful Dream character. Please keep in mind that dream characters do not themselves exist. When you are dreaming, you see a moving canvas in the appearance of a person. Your visual and audio nerves fire signals into your brain and synthesize images and sounds. This is hard to explain if one does not fully grasp the relation between the senses and the real world, of world-models and the idea "I think, therefore I am".

This is not an attack on dreaming, lucidity, or any of you (except for maybe Burke who follows an obsolete, dogmatic superstition based on a book of farmer fairy-tales that has been almost completely discredited by science within the past 200 years), but just an attempt to open your eyes and elucidate you.
