This is the first and only place I've really openly talked about LDs in fear of being labeled "more crazy". Recently I tried to explain it to a friend of mine and he totally down played it. He said "I've flew in a dream too, its just how it plays out. It is all in your subconscious desires." I try to explain to him that I have no doubt he had a flying dream, but I can't get it through his thick skull that I'm making a decision.
Any way to win this argument with a non-believer?
Show him the forum, or Books. There is a ton of solid facts on lucid dreaming you can show him. But this is a very safe place to talk about Lucid Dreaming, in fact i hardly even talk to my family about it since I think they might think I really am insane.
Another possibility is to just let it go. Is it really worth fighting for?

Sounds like he doesn't really understand the concept. From what you've said it sounds like he thinks lucid dreaming is doing extraordinary things in dreams, rather than realizing you're dreaming and being able to manipulate the reality presented to you. I think if you can separate what he thinks it is from what it really is and explain it to him youll come to an understanding.

Probably the best advice right here. Some people get it, most people don't, chances are if he's that criticizing and closed minded about it to begin with, he won't be able to control the creative aspect of his brain to fully experience an LD anyways. You have to believe in it to manifest it. Although I am super passionate about dreaming, I choose carefully who I discuss these topics with, for sadly a lot of my friends think I'm insane when I do. Personally I think they are the crazy ones, "Sleep-walking through their waking state, or wake-walking through their dreams.."Quote:

You're all very helpful, unfortunately it was only recently I found this forum I'm 21 and I've been able to LD since I was 15.
I stayed quiet because I instinctually recognized that I was doing something rare, verified by this place 6 years later.
What makes my dreams easier to control is that they aren't in buildings or my home, I wouldn't be next to a pyramid or something in real life so I can figure it out pretty quickly that I'm dreaming.
I can understand why he disregards the possibility, because for normal dreamers they can do supernatural things but its not a decision it is just a series of events. They can't grasp the concept of an active thought process while asleep.
I'm gonna squash it, but that's like me saying that since I never experienced a ghost that they aren't real. But due to our abilities we might be more negotiable on more extreme possibilities.
It's not that uncommon of an ability, I'd say that 60% of people have had them naturally, and 99-100% of people can have them if they try.Quote:
