I've been trying to start doing reality checks during the day, but while I'm dreaming I can't focus to do them. You have to make the decision to do it, but it's like I can't choose anything, stuff just happens. And it happens fast. Does this happen to everyone at first? Is there something else I need to do?
Reality checks take some time to start working. You won't expect instant results. It's more a method of training your brain. The idea is that as you learn to examine your world critically in real life, that behavior should carry over into the dream world. At some point, when you see unusual things, you will RC partially out of habit and hopefully become lucid. In real life, DON'T LET IT BECOME A HABIT! This may seem like a contradiction, but if you just start doing the motions without analyzing anything, they won't work as well, if at all.
Gonna start trying FILD. Maybe that will make it easier...
Last night I had a dream, it was the closest one I've had to becoming lucid. I decided to do a reality check and when I looked at my hand, there was no writing on it (I usually put a 9 there) and when there wasn't anything there, I decided to do that hand in hand trick. But that didn't work either.
When ever I do a reality check. I always think of what the result is if (blank) happens, for example. I decide I wanna do the breathing trick. I think
"If I can't breathe while I'm doing this then I'm not dreaming and if I can breathe then I am dreaming." That's what I like to do.
