      Unhappy Reality Checking into darkness

I have made a lot of progress over the past 3 months since I joined here, I can now realize I am dreaming and do a reality check at least once a week. But then my awsome progress stops. I've had about 15 so far (meaning I just realized I was dreaming) and in none of them did I remain in the original dream. So far about half of these have become a false awakening after recognizing an oddity in the dream (only one of these lasted longer than like 1 minute where I was walking around my house- it was awsome ).

But the majority of the time, after I do the reality check (nose pinch), everything pretty much just turns black and there is nothing there to stabilize. I have memorized the keys to stabalizing them (stay calm, engauge all senses, anchor yourself to the dream, rub hands, ect.). I guess maybe when that happens that REM cycle is too close to being finished for you do enter a LD?

I am so close to regular lucid dreaming I can't stand it! Just need some help with this last bit.

You seem to be really successful with identifying when you're in a dream, RCing, etc.
You're definitely on the right track, you may just need to be patient and keep doing what you're doing. Based on what you've written, you're doing everything correctly. I know this isn't a great answer, but you may just need to wait it out. Surely you'll eventually be able to stabilize + stay in the dream.

Have you tried going to bed at different times/adjusting your sleep schedule?
Have you tried taking naps during the day?

Experiment a little more, maybe you should even try a different technique, like WILD.
Hope that helped. Best of luck

I've experienced that a number of times, and I've found I pretty much have to do the same thing: relax, rub my hands, and most importantly keep reminding myself that I'm in a dream. Focus on your dream body, especially if you can keep moving.

I think that once you get some more practice, it either won't happen as often, take as long, or you'll grow accustomed to it. Everyone dreams a bit different. At any rate, keep doing what you're doing to be come lucid as it seems to be working! Let us know if there are other questions we can help answer (or that I/we have forgotten to answer).

I look around for a speck of light, or look for something that's slightly different than everything around it. I place my hands on a surface, and try to feel for wherever I want to be.

I've actually been snapped right into a dream when I did this.

      Spoiler for Example:

I pick up a half-eaten copy of a book by Neil Gaiman, and decide this is all his fault.

Thanks for the help guys! I think what Amethyst said about not thinking about your real body at all is what I need to practice. Samuel, your example sounds very similar to what usually happens to me. Thanks for the advice. Eventually i'll get it.
