I find FILD works best for me at that time as well, though it is also good doing it in the middle of the night. I think it really just depends on the person because things work differently for everyone.
Well, somehow, I naturally "wake up" during the brief periods where you wake up after a dream or just randomly wake up in the night. By moving only my fingers, I can FILD pretty easily. It's all due to the fact that whenever I wake up for a short while during my sleep, my brain "snaps" me back into reality, so I can keep awareness.
I suggest looking for these short awakenings, and trying to wake up your mind while letting your body sleep. It's unnatural to set an alarm clock, in my opinion. You could be interrupted in the middle of an LD. So let yourself naturally wake up, and THEN try to FILD.
A brief tip: It doesn't matter if you DO move a little bit after waking up. Just get into a comfortable enough position and then continue on. Because if you are not easy with the position you are in, you will actually wake up even more, and WILL eventually move to ease the situation, breaking your SP. Even if you do try sleeping in an awkward position, you will be thinking, "God. I wish I could move. Nah, I can't do that."
And you will wake yourself up too much. Remember, to successfully FILD, you don't have to douse your brain with cold water and keep your body in a nutshell. The key is to let yourself hover on the brink of sleep, and keep awareness during that time using your fingers.
The FILD method can induce sleep paralysis? :?
Actually, it WORKS on sleep paralysis. Perhaps. :P
Good point. Once I woke up, sat up and succussfully FILDedQuote:

I absolutely agee with you! I find its easier to remember dreams by gently waking up myself then by being startled awake by an alarm. Also I find with FILD if I wake up too much, via alarm, then I just can't really get it to work.
I find FILDing ends up being WILDing for me. Does anyone else find that?
Yeah, i do. It actually IS a form of WILD. When WILDing, you induce sleep paralysis, and then slip into dream state. but while waking up after a short sleep, you ALREADY are in sleep paralysis, and all that is left is to slip into dream state. You could call it a faster way of WILDing.
Hmm… Im not sure if FILD actually works on waking up in SP, rather it does so when you are on the brink of sleep, and transfer a waking life movement to a dream movement. I know that when I FILDed, I sat up, but I think I fell asleep v quickly after that.
I suppose so. If someone wakes up and are on the brink of sleep, they can quickly enter SP and dream.
