Sending healing / positive energy

I came up with an interesting idea just now. I'm the type of person that wants to help everyone as much as I possibly can, even if there's usually nothing I can do. I have a very engineering-geared mind sometimes (I'm a programmer) so I always feel bad when I can't do something tangible. Just tonight I heard from a friend how one of his friends is going through really tough times, dealing with a seriously jerkish roommate, etc. and even though I'd never heard of this guy before, I really felt for him. I just have that extra touch of empathy, I guess.

So I'm sitting here thinking about what I can do to help people. Being in college makes things tough, as I certainly can't afford to send people money despite how I want to. Though of course money doesn't solve the big problems anyhow... All that comes to mind is trying to project some healing / positive energy to people. I mean, energy of that sort is basically "free", I can work with that. :P I also thought it was an idea that would go over well on these forums, so... here I am.

I went on for a lot longer than I thought I was going to... the short version is, I like helping people, so I want to send them some positive energy. I'd love to place this thread where more people can see it, but I know that this is where it belongs. So, I'm counting on you Inner Sanctum-ers to volunteer some people who you think need healing (even yourself, if you want. It works for me!) I'll send some along to a couple of people each night. If I can remember to, anyway.

(My little disclaimer: I'm no expert at this, just the opposite! This is as much a "practice makes perfect" idea as it is being helpful. Killing two birds with one stone, as it were. That being said, I figure it can't hurt, right? :))

With prayer, a person asks the g/God of their choosing to do the actual work. But with positive energy??? What more but positive energy aimed at strangers???
Unless you're a natural healer, I don't think it's possible. As much as I would like to believe in it, it's a reach. What helps people in a slump- when it comes to prayer/positive energy- is KNOWING someone out there is thinking about you. If you're a thinker and not so much a doer, do something extra for someone: make them/buy them a card, write a poem, given them a flower, invite them over for coffee.
That's how I am/was. I say a lot, but I'm a hermit at heart. Every now and then, I've broken out of my shell and done something small for a friend/associate and it really meant something to the other person.
Problems could arise, however, in how the gift is presented. Don't make it uncomfortably familiar or intimate unless you're really close to the person. Know the emotional maturity of the person, if at all possible, before hand- you wouldn't want someone crushing on you if the feelings aren't mutual.

Of course, personal contact and friendly gestures are a must. I'm not suggesting my method replace those. But I hear of many people going through troubling times, and my heart goes out to them even though they are strangers. They are too far away to see in person, and it's hard to think of something special for someone you don't really know. I comfort them through words to the best of my ability, but I feel like I could do more. I came up with this idea as something to do in addition to your normal inclinations. Visit someone, send them chocolates, give them a hug or whatever. But then send positive energy on top of that. As for whether it works, who knows? It can't make things worse, right? :)

Nah, it definitely couldn't hurt :)
Just make sure you're not hurting yourself too. It's easy to become bogged down, depressed, overwhelmed by all the negativity, hard times and suffering that goes on around us every second of every day. Don't obsess over those you cant help (or even about those you can).
If you feel better after sending people positive energy/thoughts, then very good :hug: But if you find yourself feeling worse, then try to redirect your thoughts.

I'm 36 years old. I'm a hermit/recluse because I cannot tolerate negativity or chaos. I don't know how to turn the empathy off, so I lock myself away from people. I have 4 kids and a husband but no real life friends. The world is like a psychic vampire, sucking me dry of any and all energy.
If you're young, work on channeling and controlling your feelings in a practical, healthy and fulfilling way.

Felt this way/tried this many times...to a degree some might find unusual.

In my experience, actions of goodwill trump thoughts of goodwill in most cases.

ya man you can send positive energy to people. the farther away they are the harder though.

Heh, sure! I may not get to it for a day or two though, I'm still fighting off some kinda illness. I see your posts a lot actually, saltyseedog. You always seem to have eye-opening ideas, even if sometimes I'm contrary, haha. :)
