      the nature of unified consciousness

*This turned out kind of long, this post is an outlet for my endless ontological thoughts. If you have the time and an open mind, then please keep reading! I have included my own interpretations and opinions near the end of the post.*

Lately my thoughts have been dominated by what "unified consciousness" means. It is the main tenet of many many religious philosophies like Buddhism, ect. "Everything is connected", "reality is consciousness", "separateness is an illusion", ect. It is also hinted at through the legendary Double Slit experiment where outside of observing measurement, a particle of matter exists as a wave of potential states, which collapses into one whenever it is measured. One interpretation of this result is that consciousness is nonlocal, meaning that what we observe as reality is just as "conscious" as we are, and outside of that everything exists as nothing more than a wave of probability.

It is a very hard thing to try and explain but Dr. Quantum does it very well in this vid if your interested.

Dr Quantum - Double Slit Experiment - YouTube

Anyway, consciousness as we experience it is dualistic. An observer observes. Whether it be a thought, place, other person, or experience. Both are required in how we experience consciousness. Considering this, the question "What does unified consciousness mean?" becomes incredibly mind bending.

I kind of feel like this is something that the human mind isn't capable of understanding. Like the concept of higher dimensions, the big bang, infinity, integral Calculus ( lol jk ), ect. If it exists, then it exists in a non-dualistic state, a single point of awareness. That is a completely foreign and unfamiliar idea.

I have my own ideas and theories based on my experiences (OBEs and LDs) but this post just concerns the scientific facts about the matter. I believe that string theory fits into this framework (even though it hasn't been experimentally verified). It states that subatomic particles of matter are not small "billiard balls" of matter, but a enormous amount of energy emanating from a certain vibrational signature of a "plank string". These vibrations occurring within a six dimensional volume determine every particle, force, and constant we see in the universe. This doesn't seem like a unlikely scenario after watching sand dance into complex and intricate patterns when exposed to different frequencies like in this vid.

      Cymatic experiment - YouTube

This may be a stretch, but I think that every possible configuration of matter, energy, life, and consciousness (+ things which are dimensionally defined, like time) that can exist within 11 dimensions... does... simultaneously. My hypothesis:Unified consciousness exists in a state where it is experiencing every reality possible at the same time. In this way, it can relate to and learn from itself in every way (such as in our fragmented reality). Also, what a amazing way for consciousness to discover itself and learn whenever it must come to terms with its own seemingly end of existence.

This is a great vid about string theory and parallel universe theory.

I would love to hear some other perspectives and opinions about this beautiful idea.

once in a deep trance state i was standing before the door and behind this door was the core - the core of everything, the factory of all realities. i got the hint if i enter this core i would be everything and nothing. i truly felt an immense power coming from this core which was pure light and the realities it produced were just projections.

honestly i got afraid because i had no idea what would happen if i truly had entered this final stage. i broke up the experiment and came slightly from this trance state

so i know what you are talking about

      Namaste!

      (0:00 to 2:44)

And here we are, the Grandady of All quantum weirdness. The Infamous Double Slit Experiment!

To understand this experiment we first need to see how particles or little balls of matter, act.

If we randomly shoot a small object, say a marble, at the screen, we see a pattern on the back wall

where they went through the slit and hit.

      (0:29)

Now, if we add a second slit we would expect to see a second band duplicated, to the right.

      Now let’s look at waves

The waves hit the slit and radiate-out striking the back wall with the most intensity directly in-line with the slit. The line of brightness on the back screen shows that intensity. This is similar to the kine the marbles make.

      But

When we add the second slit something different happens

      (1:11)

If the top of one wave meets the bottom of another wave they cancel each other out. So, now there is an *Interference Pattern* on the back wall.

Places where the two tops meet are the highest intensity, The Bright Lines. And where they cancel, there is nothing.

      So

When we throw things, that is matter through 2 slits we get this (pic), two bands of hits. And with waves we get an interference pattern of many bands.

      Good, so far.

      Let’s go Quantum.

An electron is a tiny, tiny bit of matter.

      (2:02)

      Like a tiny marble.

Let’s fire a stream through one slit.

It behaves just like the marble, single band.

So, if we shoot these tiny bits through 2 slits we should get, like the marble, two bands.

      WHAT (???!!!???)

      An Interference Pattern

We fired electrons, tiny bits of matter through and we get a pattern like waves, not like little marbles.

      HOW

How could pieces of matter create an Interference Pattern like a wave?

      It doesn’t make sense.

      (2:44)

Check out the Quantum Zeno effect. I was shocked that when scientists look at radioactive decay under a microscope, the decaying elements stop decaying. Go away come back later, decays like normal, but when watching it the elements do not decay.

Great thread! I have been wrestling with the whole "nonlocal universe" thing...the basically holographic nature of reality. Thanks for those Dr. Quantum links, I hadn't heard of them!

The Observer collaped the wave function simply by observing (in her lucids elew simply observes)

How could pieces of matter create an Interference Pattern like a wave?

      It doesn’t make sense.

      (2:44)

      To continued …

      But

Pysisists are clever they thought, “Maybe those little balls are bouncing off each other and creating that patten”. So they decide to shoot electrons through one at a time. There is no way they can interfere with each other. But after an hour of this the same interference patten is seen to emerge.

      The conclusion is inescapable.

The single electron leaves as a particle
      Becomes a wave of potentials
      Goes through both slits
      And interferes with itself
To hit the wall like a particle

But mathematically it’s even stranger. It goes through both slits and it goes through niether. And it goes through just one and it goes through just the other. All of these possibilites are in superposition with each other.

But phisisists were completely baffled by this

      So

They decided to peek and see which slit it actually goes through. They put a measuring device by one slit so see which one it went through and let it fly, (hehehehe). But the Quantum world is far more mysterious than they could have imagined.

      (4:00)

When they observed, the electron went back to behaving like a little marble. It produced a patten of 2 bands not an interfearence patten of many.

The very act of measuring (4:16) or observing which slit it went through meant it only went through (4:22) ONE not both.

The electron decided to act differently

As though it was aware it was being watched.

And it was here that physisists stepped forever into the strange (4:40) nether-world of Quantum Events. What is Matter? Marbles of waves? And waves of what? And what does an observer have to do with any of this?

The observer collapsed the wave function simply by observing.

      End of clip

The substance of the universe is Consciousness

The Elew in the last post is the girl friend of the infamous Tsunah.

Go ahead and ban me if it pleases TsunaH.

tsunaH and Elew are the most advanced dreamers I know but for some reason they don't like me, (boo-hoo) so ban me because I can't stop singing their praises.

The Substance of the Universe is Consciousness

      The measurement problem is this:

An atom only appears in a particular place if you measure it. In other words, an atom is spread-out all over the place until a conscious observer decides to look at it. So, the act of measurement or observation creates the entire universe.

      (0:21)

Only conscious being can be observers when we are intimately hooked into the very existence of reality. Without us there would just be this expanding super-position of possibilities with nothing definite ever actually happening.

      (0:38)

The modified Copenhagen view is, “Life is neither wave nor particles until we look.

      (0:44)

And then it adjusts itself depending on what we’re looking at it with. An electron is not anywhere until we look. And when we look the electron decides to be somewhere as long as we’re looking. As soon as we stop looking the electron is everywhere again.

      (0:59)

This means deeply enough if we dive down into the nature of matter everything we know about the everyday world, dissolves.

      (1:10)

There are no objects anymore. There are only relationships.
There is no locality anymore. There is no time anymore. The more you look at something in detail in what we think of as solid matter, the less and less solid it begins to look.

      (1:25)

Matter does not exist. The concept of substance flows from the philosophy of Aristotle.

      (1:33)

And from that concept came, science’s conception of matter. The fact of the matter is that the substance of the universe is

      (1:44)

      Consciousness

A quick point, as a professional scientist:

The 'observer' and the 'observed' in physics theory are physical components which a system is divided into for mathematical convenience. It has nothing to do with the consciousness of an observer, though the choice of words is confusing for most non-experts. Physically, something like same thing happens whether anyone is looking through the microscope or not, its the physical presence of the microscope that affects the experiment. Or, in the double slit experiment, its the presence of a an inductive loop around one slit that collapses the interference pattern, and that happens whether anyone is paying any attention or not. A particular collection of spots on the screen isn't defined for anyone who is not physically connected to the system. But the interference pattern is absent in any case, if the loop is there, even if there is no witness. Its not really the 'detection' that forces it to commit to a definite result, its the specific interaction with other matter.

The interaction of consciousness with matter may be analogous in some way, but it has nothing directly to do with the physics theory, which does not deal with consciousness at all.

I think that most of what makes it seem counterintuitive is it's rarely explained well. I liked my undergraduate modest physics course, but with retrospect our text book was quite misleading.

I don't see why a particle having wavelike properties is creepy. Lots of things in everyday experience have wavelike properties. Quantum mechanics says that objects are not made up of tiny billiard balls, but I don't see how it would make any sense to expect them to be. There has to be some freedom and interactiveness in matter, or it would all just be frozen.

Basically, what the double slit experiment shows is that an tiny knot of energy such as an electron can go through both slits because it's not really a particle. But if you force it to commit to one slit or the other, then it does.

What I find disturbing, is the possibility that there isn't always global consistency in physics. In the context of the double slit experiment, I believe that it's possible for an electron to go through one slit and then strike the screen at a location consistent with having gone through the other. This doesn't generally happen, and is generally assumed never to happen. But my experience and intuition say its possible, and no math principles that I know of say it's impossible. That realization and subsequent experience frightened me. But there's probably a being somewhere saying "of course it has to be that way, it's only counterintuitive if not explained well."

You can see how time would be illusionary. If everything that could ever happen was contained within that unified singularity, then time is the procession of details in a certain order. Past, present, and future all exist at once. The singularity creates time in order to experience itself. All the "data" is there, but to view it it must be called forth one bit at a time - creating linearity.

The singularity is stillness, as all occurs at once. The experience of itself is movement, vibration/time. You could consider the singularity, or unified consciousness, infinite speed. Thus all details are seen at once. In order for experience to be had, it must slow down to view itself. Vibration is the rate or speed of movement of consciousness. Infinite speed being stillness, the slowing down creating vibration and time in order to view the details.

I will use an analogy. Imagine a CD. It has all the sound on it at once. If you read it while it was spinning very quickly, you would hear noise. If you slowed it down more details of the noise would be heard as there is more time in which to view them.

The continued slowing down of vibration is the calling forth of more details. Each dimension moves at a slightly slower vibratory rate than the one above it, the lower dimensions being the details of the higher. 11 I would imagine is an arbitrary figure. There are infinite grades of movements. However you can make large distinctions, which may be where they got the number 11.

You can only make models of unity with your mind. If you wish to experience it directly, at one point you will have to move beyond mind. It is here all the time, as in a hologram, you just have to cross that barrier into stillness.
