      I keep seeing 2:22

Often times when I look at clocks, it will be at 2:22. Not too often, but enough for me to take notice. Anyone have an explanation?

It's nothing special really. You're just on a neurological grid, in a reality tunnel that for some reason or another recognizes 2:22. I do the same with 11:11, 9:11, 4:20...

      Synchronicity, it's like clockwork.

      because brains like patterns
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

Sounds like DV is getting quick nowadays in ousting alternative ideas about synchronicities.
      No 'collective unconscious' theories?

Numbers themselves don't carry any meaning than what we attach to them. This much is true either way.

I always seem to catch clocks on solid numbers like 1:11, 2:22, and most often 11:11. It could be because of the whole wishing thing. If you haven't heard of it, you can wish on a clock at 11:11.

      No, it's a complete mystery.
      The starz...
      The planets...
The intricate and dynamic machinery of nature...
      Are you saying,
that all of this was created,
      BY A MONKEY??????

how can it be a complete mystery when we have hypotheses

We have reasonable guesses placed well within fact and logic. And it could just be chance. Unless the great ugi machu is making people look at clocks, I'm pretty sure we aren't oblivious to the answer.

I was laughing because what you said was so true. After 5 hypothesis were given idol said it was a complete mystery like we had no hypothesis. I myself submitted one.

Well, if you want my hypothesis:

It is very true that our brain takes a liking to noticing patterns. If you think about all of the times you unconsciously gaze at the time, whether it be on an alarm clock, a cell phone, a kitchen stove, or your computer itself, you are bound to see any combination of numbers,... all having equal probability.

However, when we begin to notice the alignment of specific numbers (a 'synchronicity', as it comes to be called), a lightbulb goes off in our mind, we come forth from unconsciousness, and we have a moment of 'Hey! There it is again! 11:11! This is freaky!'. After a while of noticing these specific synchonicities, however, our mind begins to remember when exactly the specific time occurs, and we gain the tendency to see and notice it more often at its specified time,... much like how our 'biological clock' tells us to get up in the morning at a specific time, after a number of repetitions.

... In numerology (strickly pseudoscience), certain alignments of numbers are given a specific meaning. For example: 111, 1:11, or 11:11 is considered to be a sign that one is on the "correct path". 444 = angels (or means 'no', where 333 means 'yes'), ... etc. etc. etc. ... Some believe that these alignments are keys/signs from a spiritual/metaphysical source. However, the truth is, as I explained in my previous post, the meaning of certain combinations are only there because we've chosen to attach these meanings to them. Whether or not they are 'signs' is only reserved for ones superstitious belief, and is in no way applicable to science, given its absolutely unmeasurable nature (in other words, ... they're just numbers guys)

      ...

However, there is something worth learning from our endeavors with this specific phenomena. Some would completely leave it at the theory that the mind simply likes patterns, and that there is nothing of worth to take away from this occurrence. Rather, I think this phenomena tells something about the human brains inherent tendency/programming/(purpose even?) to align itself to the natural world. The preprogrammed initiative to spot signs of order amid the chaos of reality, and likewise, to establish order amiss the chaos. Its a constructive instinct. Perhaps, without this instinct, we would not form or align to any sort of order, and establish such conscious memory. We (perhaps even) would not be the sentient, self-aware human beings we are, engaging the natural world in our prevailing efforts to discover, and see the order underlying all that we believe is chaos at first sight.

These are my $0.02 anyhow. ... Feel free to view these synchonicities however you wish.

      I agree.

Plus, there's a concept called confirmation bias.

I keep seeing the colour blue everywhere I go. This morning I was driving to work and I passed a thrift store and it's sign was mostly blue. Then about five minutes ago, I went outside to take out some garbage and I looked up and the sky was all blue. What could this mean?

Edit: It just happened again. I randomly looked down at my watch to see what time it was and the plastic band on my watch is blue!

      Congratulations Joe! ...
You just learned a new color. You officially passed the third grade! XD

      ...

Like I stated earlier, numbers are simply numbers. The only way that they could mean something is if we, as human beings, attach meaning to them, and their probability of occuring is the same as any number. ... That set aside, we acknowledge 2:22, and other sync's because our mind likes patterns, ... and it likes patterns because that is its nature.

Why is this? That is your interpretation.

Exactly. This coupled with the way under-acknowledged concept of Confirmation bias explains why people see things repetitively. Really, there is no meaning behind it. It's not magic, it's not a sign. It's just your brain looking for patterns, and framing circumstances into confirming those patterns as something more than they are.

Does science really have to ruin everything?

I've just been reading this post for several reasons... but mainly because I too have been seeing 2.22 a lot... in fact far too often... and too often for it to be a random brain selection to suddenly notice 'Oh, it's 2.22pm'. In a space of a month it must have happened 5 or 6 times... Having not looked at the time all day I've suddenly decided to check my watch... and BOOM... 2.22. A minute, or even seconds, before or after my decision to check the time it would have been 2.21 or 2.23... and that would have just ruined my whole 2.22 vibe... not good.

Now, I have no idea why this keeps happening... I'm not a very spiritual person... I lean more towards science in most cases... BUT I have to say... is there nothing sacred or spiritual left to consider in this world these days? I mean, Science is awesome and explains a lot... but it also completely fails on so many levels... take a naked singularity for example... WTF happens to relativity and the law of Physics when we all drop over the event horizon? It's goes completely tits up... thats what. Has anyone worked out what on Earth dark matter is yet and what is holding billions of Galaxies together in our one, of potentially infinite, universes? Something the SDSS telescope is currently trying to help us figure out but I'm not holding my breathe for any solid hypotheses soon. And of course, there's that massive question of Time, the Big Bang and why are we all here. If just the slightest configuration of the expansion of the universe had gone slightly wrong... (too much antimatter for example) none of us would be here today... there were just too many calculations and events that happened over time that all went swimmingly to plan... I just can't believe it was all 'by chance'. Impossible. This, therefore, leaves a further gaping whole in science that can only be filled by something more spiritual.

We'll all be dead one day... and for a very long time. So, can't science just poke it's head for once out of a strange personal phenomenon we call, 2.22 (that it can't justifiably explain anyway in my opinion) and let those who take comfort in believing in a deeper belonging to this universe continue to believe in whatever it is they believe in?

Big-up to 2.22... I believe in ya... whatever the f**k you are.

I mean DocHoliday... that after reading your previous posts I decided to use a metaphor that I thought you wouldn't have difficulty understanding DocHoliday... but maybe I underestimated your level of intelligence DocHoliday? DocHoliday.
