      Strengthening dream recall

Hello I'm new to the forum. I got interested in lucid dreaming after reading some about it off a website I stumbled upon.
The thing is, as interested as I am in lucid dreaming, I rarely remember any of my dreams.
Could any of you more seasoned dreamers give me a few suggestions? I'm trying to start up a dream journal but its hard when i cant remember much.

Start by writing down anything you remember when you first wake up. Even if it is only an impression, emotion, or single image in your mind. As you build the habit of thinking about your dreams upon awakening, you will find it easier and easier to remember. You have to train your brain to stop flushing these memories.

If you're really waking without any memories, your timing could be off. Try waking a few minutes earlier or later to see if you can wake up directly from a dream. If you are a pretty good sleeper, you can also wake yourself in the middle of the night to write down dreams as soon as you have them. Either set an intention to wake after each dream, or set an alarm at a time when you think you will be dreaming.

      First of all,
      to DV!

Personally, I haven't been here long, but I had the exact same problem as you - I couldn't remember any dream I had worth anything. So here's what I recommend:

      1. Continue to keep you dream journal - This helps tremendously with recall. Even if you have to wake up in the middle of the night and interrupt much needed sleep, you'll be glad you did it later.

      2. When you wake up, remain still and try to remember any dreams you might have had. - Here's what I've discovered. I don't remember dreams, but they occur to my at first as a random thought. Then I focus on that vague that and I start to recall fragments, and then whole dreams. Oftentimes, I start from the end of the dream and work my way back from the start. And then I record what I've recalled in my Dream Journal.

      3. Develop Mantras - I like to think of mantras as repetitive thoughts you repeat to yourself throughout the day occasionally and before you drift off to sleep. Try saying to yourself "I will remember any and all dreams I will have tonight", and repeat this about 5-25 times in tune with your breathing.

      4. Read your Dream Journal from time to time - Sometimes re-reading past dreams helps me analyze dream signs and helps with recall, as it also helps to visualize the previous dream in your head. Doing this and other things improve recall and overall memory.

      I hoped this helped!

if you cant even remember your dreams with what Marlowe told you, ( kind of where i was, i didnt think i had dreams haha ) you could think back to any dreams you do remember, think of dialogue and the the reason why certain things were happening, its something to start your journal with and it keeps you more aware of the dream world.
