OK, so I had the idea that WILD was supposed to be done while your mind stays awake. I'm also reading other users posts that say you have to fall asleep. Are they talking about your body so you can enter SP? I'm confused.:?

Yes you have to fall asleep or else you will just be laying in bed for hours. But you want to keep your mind awake enough while you fall asleep. This can be done by counting, visualization and many other things. Read billybobs turtorial and the tutorial why people fail at wild.
OHhhhh that's the one I read that made me question myself. I thought you had to keep your mind awake the entire time, but you just have to make it awake...enough. Well this will help a lot. so to go over, you count(example) to keep your mind awake, but there will be a time were you completely fall asleep, but hopefully your mind will be awake enough to know your dreaming. is that it?
That's basically it yeah. People use the term awake a lot, but that often gives people the wrong impression. I would say keep the mind AWARE.
PERFECT this will help so much... thanks guys.
Do be aware though. My mind played a very clever trick on me today after a failed WILD attempt during an afternoon nap.
Basically, I false awakened, attempted a WILD and it worked (Naturally, because I was already dreaming.), I got so excited that it worked that the dream collapsed... False awakening me AGAIN! So, I immediately try to WILD back into the dream. I did, and I was lucid.
...For about 5 seconds... I was awoken (For real this time.) by my dad opening the front door. I happily scribbled the whole experience in my dream journal and then realized not only that I had another dream before that... But that I had made the 'successful' WILD attempt AFTER falling asleep.
I've had more successful accidental WILDs (while not achieving it, losing the dream) than trying to induce WILDs by myself (unable to achieve SP).
The furthest I've been is the transition phase, where, luckily, I gained awareness to experience this. I was dreaming up an environment from ''the void'' then, it sucked me in somehow, but I lost the dream from the intense feelings it gave me.
Mzzkc also has a wonderful tutorial. I recommend reading them both...

Those are my favourite kinds of WILDs!! And the only successful ones I've had, to date.
