      need help with dream journal

alright so I'm working on my dream recall, and I can remember the gist of my dreams in my head during the day. Now I have an actual dream journal, but I get sooo lazy especially during the night, that I don't wake up, and my dreams continue on, and then another dream starts. Sorta like my head is like a Dream HBO if you will lol.

I just need help on what all should I remember from my dreams, how detailed do I have to be, and when I should set my alarm?

Personally I don't use an alarm; when I wake up I lay still with my eyes closed and go through my dream (or dreams), starting from the end and going backwards as far as I can. Then, I have my DJ on my nightstand, with a little reading light and a pen. I write everything I remembered (sometime just in form of notes), then, back to sleep. Of course, a little bit of fighting against a natural laziness is required...

For most dreams, I will just write down a few lines about the main points I remember. I try to include the emotions and overall feel of the dream. If it was a really incredible or memorable dream, I will try to record as much detail as possible. Normally, the more I write, the more I remember. I always leave myself room on the opposite page to go back and fill in more information as I remember it.

I never have to set an alarm. Usually whenever I have a dream I just wake up on my own. In regards to the laziness you just have to suck it up haha. It's part of the experience for us all I guess. Best of luck.

Just write down what you remember in the morning. You probably won't have much better recall in the middle of the night, so why bother? The only case I would write my dreams down in the middle of the night is if it's a REALLY good dream.
