      Dream "Movies"

I need help. I have no problems remembering my dreams most of the time. My problem is that my dreams are like films, using my perspective as the camera. It's like I cannot make choices at all in my dreams. It's like I am following a pre-determined path. I find It difficult to become lucid because everything is predetermined. I can't look at my hands, or at a mirror or anything. Is this why I must perform RCs frequently in real life (which I have just recently started doing) so that by chance in my dream I will do this and become lucid? Is there any other techniques to help with this? While the concept of lucid dreaming is not new to me, the actual practice thereof is... Can someone help me out?

For the dream recall part, right down your dreams in a journal, this can help it. As for the lucid dream, try doing different methods, my personal favorite is WILD.

      Good Luck.

I have plenty of those dream where your just watching everything. Just like you said, its like your looking out of a camera. I've never looked at my hands in my dreams, but I do know I'm seeing things in first person in most of my dreams. Maybe your just not remebering enough of your dreams to noice that some of them are indeed in first person. Also maybe you can do a reality check of examining your hands and hope it transfers to your dream.

Thanks N. Well see thats what's strange... My dreams are in first person, with my vision like a camera. But I am like running on auto-mode or something, because I have no control of whats going on or myself even. It's hard to explain... But my dream recall is very good actually. I can remember alot of my dreams and even mundane details, but it's like in a Video Game cut-scene in first person mode. I guess part of my brain is controlling my actions unconsciously as my consciousness just observes. And yeah i've been recently integrating RCs into my daily life in hope that the Automated version of me will do it and I will be able to take control once I realize i'm dreaming.. Is this type of Dream "movie" normal? Any other suggestions?

Well dream are pretty much always going to be automatic. I'm pretty sure the reason we don't know that were dreaming is because out frontal lobe of are brain is off while we dream, which gives us reasoning. So by paracticing on awareness in your waking life will help you get that sudden awareness in your dream. That's what's hard about dream induced lucid dreams. They usually only happen on random occasions when you have sudden awareness in the dream. It just takes some time and practice. But what I use to do was just observe my surroundings throughout the day and especially at night, and that use to actually transfer to my dream.

Basically, I named it Passive Observer, and it's like I am the camera just watching a movie. There is sometimes even a narrator, and I will immediately transition from one scene to the next without thinking twice about how I just teleported!

So far I have found nothing that actually helps with the Passive Observer state, but I have noticed that it does mimic how I react to situations in real life. Do you ever notice yourself going into a type of "movie-mode" during your day when you stop experiencing your surroundings and just think/ruminate? If so, I think you and I have a similar situation and the dream is simply sending you a message about how you view the world and your natural reactions.

After understanding this part of my psyche, I have grown more alert in my day-to-day activities and I pay attention to when my awareness drops. It's almost like a challenge now for me to determine when my consciousness level has dipped below one of full discipline and awareness. Throughout the day, if I catch myself day dreaming or in that passive state, I will immediately reality check and try to experience my surroundings my rubbing my clothes and really trying to feel the fabric and taking deep, controlled breaths.

Ultimately, my suggestion would be don't worry too much about it if your dream recall still remains high. Instead, see it as an opportunity. I know that whenever I go into Passive Observer, it's really frustrating because it ends my dreams, but now that I've started to come to terms with the reality that most of my dreams end up that way, I see it as a goal to RC whenever I go into that state and particularly pay attention in real life for situations that will likely lead into that state.

Start journaling about it more and really try to find what you subconscious is trying to tell you through this dream "movie." You might be surprised that you actually do turn into a "camera" quite a bit in your daily life when you aren't paying attention.

Day residue is your friend. Try to do more physically active things during the day and take note of how your body feels in these tasks. Think about perspective and how things feel around you. Watch less TV; there is no more a passive thing than observing TV which is where I think we get this from.
