Did I achieve lucidity?
I haven't attempted lucid dreaming for a year until last night as I had watched inception the night before and was reminded of it. I first heard of lucid dreaming in psychology 101 where it greatly interested me however I was in college at the time so sleeping want exactly natural. The technique that I believe works for me is looking at my hands which I use in real life when something seems a little offgoing that it will carry overt to dreaming. Last night while in the midst of a dream I looked down at my hands and saw three fingers on one hand and a club on the the ornery and knew I was dreaming. I realized in the dream that I was in fact dreaming I found that things were hard to control except that when I used a swimming motion I could flt in which case as soon as I was in a situation I couldnt control or didnt like in would use that to get oyt of it. I dont remember exact scenarios but I did wake up in a better than first thinf in the morning mood. I guess my question is did I actually achieve lucidity or was it just on my subconscious because I had seen inception a few nights earlie??

You were lucid, so long as you know it is a dream, then you are achieving lucidity. Maybe inception helped, but nothing to really worry about.

well then I guess my next question is how do I become mt controlling of circumstances would I go in with some type of game plan ahead of time

Yes, you were definitely lucid. As long as you know you're dreaming - no matter how long the dream lasts after that, or how much control you have - it's still a lucid. :) Congrats
As for controlling your dreams, a good rule of thumb is basically to "know" what's going to happen next. You open a door, and expect a certain location to be on the other side. Turn around and expect a certain person to be there. Expect a person to act a certain way, or say a certain thing (yep, even controlling dream characters is possible). This principal can be applied towards virtually anything in your dream - it's all about expectations.
It's good to go into a lucid dream knowing what you want to do. Personally, I visualize a certain dream scenario I want during the day, so when I become lucid I know exactly what I'm doing.
