Its a really nice concept but It is my understanding there is already a lucid dreaming app for the iphone.. You may want to research this first.
Done and done... ;)
That's why the project is being posted here. All the lucid dreaming and dream apps are fragmented and it is my goal to
combine all the information and tools into one whole app.
Sounds awesome tbh - when you are done is it gonna be free ?
Havent decided fully yet. Couple options in pricing and distribution.
Cant build it totally for free but i can give to people for free with Ads in the app. With a upgrade option to remove ads.
You NEED to put a thing so people can track what time their REM is! that is my goal right now, like a sleep cycle app (I know there is one, but I'm not talking about it) I'm talking about one with an accelerometer tracker that can tell you which phase of sleep you are in.
I would buy that in a heartbeat!
Great suggestion! I had some loose notes on that so far but would love to talk about it more.
thanks
Make sure there is a DEILD alarm!! On that turns off by itself!!! Please please please!!!
There are so many little things i could launch fairly soon but im torn between launching and releasing new features or just releasing a whole and complete app in a couple months.
What core features would you guys love to have asap such as the DEILD alarm?
DEILD alarm (maybe that says "do not move" or something? and an option to pick sounds), that only goes off for a few seconds and tracking what sleep stage you are in and tells you what time you are in REM. Those are the two things I can think of that would help me TONS.
And later on you can add more if you like (I'm saying that because I've been waiting for apps with these features FOREVER!!!!)
the day you put these out, is the day I will buy them/it!
if your into brainwaves there is an app called dream by brainwave. It comes with delta, theta, alpha, beta and lucid dreaming brainwaves that can be played simultaneously along with a small choice of ambiance sounds, the volume can be adjusted on both.
brainwaves haven't worked for me, but if they do for you, then this is a nice app.
DEILD ALARM! You pick on how long it takes before it turns off. And it will remind you not to move or open your eyes..
maybe a notebook in it so you can write down your dream at once?
Hello. I have an IPad with an app called Dream Inducer. It plays ambient sounds mixed with a brainwave frequency. It also has timers. I havent really used it cause its hard for me to sleep with headphones but you guys should look into it. I also have a app called Penultimate which i can write by just using my finger. I use that app for Dream Recall. It's not a keyboard and I don't need to use a pen. Just my finger which is very useful when you just wake up and need to write. I hope this helps.
Sorry I'm not a programmer just a guy who has a IPad with an app. I thought it would be useful information. That's all.
Bring us the app!
I have quite a few dreaming apps at the moment. I have one for brainwaves, one for telling me I'm dreaming, one to measure sleep cycles, one to give me reminders to reality check throughout the day, and a few LD tracks that vary from just music, music with subliminal messages, music with mantras, and plain old hypnotic suggestion.
I third what dakotahnok requests - I could really use a DEILD alarm as well. In my humble opinion, it would be worth the wait to have all of these things combined into one app, as most of us have so many fragmented apps already.
Good luck on your project... :D
Hard to tell. I'm sure results vary.
I agree with those, measuring what sleep phase you are in, deild alarm, reality check reminder and subliminal messages. and music with mantras possibly :)
but mainly the DEILD alarm and sleep cycle thing :)
The idea here is to research and observe what anyone else has done right, wrong or not at all and put together a swiss army app for all dreaming needs.
I will be looking for more people specifically that want to participate in testing (iphones/iPods) as well as people just interested in giving feedback on concepts.
Right now i myself am new to the Lucid dreaming concept and must first achieve a solid understanding of the information and techniques.
If anyone here has a great wide variety of experience and success (many years) i would be most interested in holding short interviews or direct mentoring so i can put the best creative mind into the app.
Thank you all for your support so far and your messages.
M
Id love to test it out! If you need any interviews just PM me and we can set up a time that works for the both of us. We could meet in the dreamviews IRC, or Skype. Whatever works for you. :D
Think it was Aquiana(sp?) the mod who said, once something becomes mainstream, people will try to make money off it. Now, I approve of this idea and all, but you admit yourself you dont know much about it and dont have a full understanding, you just found a way to make money off of people and decided too. Oh well.
There are people who try to make money off of LD. But i dont think this guy is one of them. If he was then he wouldnt be trying to make an effort on this app. He is going to WORK on this app so why not make a little money for his time, its not like thousands of people are going to by a lucid dreaming app, much less even know it exist.
I would rather him makes this app AND him make money then this app not existing at all. Your being to sensitive about this.
Also just because he doesnt know much about LD doesnt mean that he doesnt care about it. As soon as I found out about lucid dreamind i have been in love with it. So dont discredit this guy, give him a chance.
I am not the best person to ask that questions seeing as I don't even have one lucid to date, but I guess it depends on what you're asking.
If you are asking do they all work to get a person lucid, I am sure different ones work for different people.
The apps do a variety of different things. The brainwave application works for me in the way that it relaxes me very quickly and I am able to get to SP a lot faster. Plus it's just plain fun how it makes my body feel. The sleep log works as a useful tool to figure out when my sleep cycles start and stop. Useful for WBTB and WILD approaches. The app that tells me I am dreaming in the middle of my REM cycle is my favourite, though it hasn't gotten me to the lucid stage yet, no. Right now it tends to wake me up, so I think I need to fiddle with the volume or try to run it without earbuds. It does work for many other people from what I've read though. There is a thread about that here. As for the subliminal messages and hypno-suggestion kind of tracks, again, I am sure they work for some people, unfortunately I'm not one of them. I sometimes use them to relax as I am falling asleep or using MILD.
I think it's Aquanina.
The concern is understandable, as there are many out there who will try to make money off of us poor schleps who want to get lucid and will buy just about anything to help the process. However, I believe in paying for good products and good quality work. I think it unlikely that MEOUCH is one of the ones trying to get rich quick with a shoddy product. The fact that he is asking for testers and our opinions on what we want in an application is evidence of that for me. In my opinion, there is no harm in seeing a need in the market, knowing you can supply that demand, and using your skills and time to do just that in exchange for money.
I would love to beta test for Android. I am very critical to things. Could also give advice to design on the UI
Oh btw would it be for iPad too? If not that's okay, I can use an iPhone/iPod app. But yep I'd love to test it.
I thought of this too. And maybe you could add a feature that can post/read dream journals with this website. I am a programmer, and have decent experience with android app development, and I am learning to develop iPhone/iPad apps. I would be delighted to help with this app.
Bumping for support. Just wanted to state my thoughts on the matter. I agree that it would be an amazing app, and I know that passion can come from nowhere. More or less, I think that if someone is VERY passionate about what they do, they would want to spread the love to everyone. Owsley gave away alot of his "work" because he knew it was for the greater good. A change in consciousness is what the world needs right now, and I believe that LD's and a searching for the true inner "you" is what will really get things in motion. With the power of social networking etc, and the fact that as someone said in another post, you really need nothing to get started, I see no reason why more and more people wouldnt be joining the group in the future. At the same time though, more and more bullshit will be out and about. More things out there for people to buy in hopes of a miracle LD and just get nothing in return. Thus turning them away from the whole thing. IF the developer was really passionate, it would be free on release for the first few months. Almost like an open beta. Then once the word spread and enough people wanted it, because it was amazing, then charge for it. Thats all.
God job, and well said. A toast, to goodness.
A voice recorder so you can record your dreams by voice.
Make a Lite version that has ads and only has something that calculates you REM or something.
Make the full version like 99 cents and you can include things like a DEILD alarm and an alarm that will wake you up during your REM. You could also add like voice commands that your iPad/ iPhone will say to you when you are sleeping.
I think this app sounds like a cool idea, especially since i'm a noob at lucid dreaming. Does anyone have any iPod/iPhone apps to help with lucid dreaming that seems to work?
This may be the only time me and Aktw4 agree.
So the best thing i can tell you is go for it make an app for nothing and share with the masses.
And make sure to post here so we can all see it. :)
And as far as the cost of the app vs. free it is far to soon in the process to entertain.
It will most likely not be free but will have a variation of free initially, reduced sales periods, giveaways, etc...
Thanks everyone for your support and input! I will be contacting more of you directly soon and taking the effort
off the forums as the concept solidifies. Then unveiling near release!
Thanks again.
M
Although I do think there should be a free version that provides people with all of the tools given in the paid version, I don't think you have any say in how he chooses to distribute his application. After all, it is his application that he is making. He has the right to profit from it if he chooses to. That's how entrepreneurism works.
If enough people want a free application like this one, then it will most likely be made in time. It isn't very hard to make in my opinion; I'm barely learning how to develop on the Android platform and I can already safely say that this application wouldn't take much work to produce. I would elaborate more on the simplicity of the mechanics, but I'm not the one producing the application.
I think that if MEOUCH is nice enough to create an app, then the least we should do is pay for it. At least a buck. I mean, everything has a price. That is, if MEOUCH even STICKS with it and doesn't drop the idea and stop posting about, which a lot of people do. I did for a couple years, but now I'm back. This is my first post in at least a year.
Personally, I prefer Isochronic Tones over Binaural Beats, BB requires stereo and sometimes you just don't wanna sleep with earbuds in or you want to sleep on your side.
I second the timer that shuts itself off -- I've made a 100 minute MP3 that has strong but not overpowering blips at the 90 minute mark (the rough average time between each REM cycle), but it hasn't really helped much. Something that's easily adjustable might be nice.
I've heard you can move a finger and not ruin your attempt to reenter a dream, so perhaps an option for a timer/alarm that doesn't have a hideous alert noise, but a slow higher Alpha 14Hz tone, that you can just hit with your finger once and it shuts off (of course you'd have to go to bed with the iPhone and/or iPad in your hand, but I can't wrapped my head around WILDing in bed anyway, I have a "chamber" for that, lol.
Perhaps something (heck, now I wanna look into this myself) that you can enter the time you had a lucid dream, and it tracks and maps your REM cycle? My most vivid and interesting lucid dream since I restarted in January was had in the first, 1:30hour mark of REM. This could help with more accurate WBTB alerts.
Hello again everyone,
Thanks for your support and comments. Some productive and some not ;)
It is my wish in this process that everyone resist getting the cart ahead of the horse with contemplating what may come. Pricing, marketing, release dates, graphic design... these are all way near the end of the process but all very much part of good planning.
At this stage i am focusing on gathering the best info about lucid dreaming and the dream culture and formulating the technology that could enhance and support it. I am at a great disadvantage and foresee the entire process taking a fair amount of time so that i get it right to respect the community and craft. Once the blueprint is finalized i will move into development of the visuals and testing.
I will most likely be selectively choosing those in the community that show the most interest and support to help out with the testing. And then taking the process off the forums with those most qualified in testing until the beta is solid and then putting up teasers closer to release.
Ideal candidates should have at least one of the following: iPhone (3G+) iPod touch, iPad, android 2.0+ etc... (may release iOS product first followed by android shortly after)
I think its important to make clear how i view a project like this.
I am not a hobbyist by profession. I know my username looks young and strange but i am 34yrs old and I have spent that last 15+yrs of my professional career as a freelance designer and business owner working on projects with people such as General Mills, Microsoft, Apple, Panasonic, etc etc... I take my design and concepts very seriously and border on perfectionism. I don't rush and i do not put out inferior product. This truly will be the mother of all dreaming and lucid dreaming apps, or i wont bother.
I plan to honor the community and in exchange for the support from all of you i will be generous with the product release and support in return.
Free kittens for everyone! ;)
I hope everyone has a great valentines and a great week.
Look forward to delivering a great product for you all!

Make the app so that you don't lock your iPhone, or else you can't use the tiltorometer or record noises made throughout the night!
Well, that isn't a problem for android, it can use the accelerometer at any time, when the app is in the background, the phone is in standby, ect. But for the iPhone you will need to tell the user to set the auto lock time to never.
so this project is dead or what?
