Hi (not a very exciting thread title)

My name is Dan. I have had an interest in all things to do with dreams for a long time. I only became aware of lucid dreaming a few years ago by accident whilst trawling through Wikipedia and reading about Philip K Dick and alternate realities etc.

Anyway, i watched Inception last night, and it sparked it all off again for me. I found this forum and I am really pleased I did.

Anyway, a little about me. Like I said, i have been fascinated by dreams for a very long time, since my mom told me about Astral beings and the Astral plain etc when i was very young (she isnt all spiritual etc, but we have all had an active interest in the paranormal for as long as i can remember) My interest in the Astral plain has wained over time, but it is what sparked off my interest in dreams for me.

I have always had really good dream recollection. Sometimes the recollection has come to me hours even days after having the dream, other times straight away upon waking. I can remember dreams from years and years ago. Some of them in amazing clarity. I am thinking of a couple now and I am amazed how clear they still are in my head.

Other dreams have had really profound effects on me for days after. Like long standing emotions for people that weren't there before, or a genuine belief other dream participants must have had the same dream due to the extreme reality of the dream, and I have had to stop myself contacting them to check, as I know i would sound foolish.

I have also had some horrible reoccuring dreams, and some subject matter repetition (but not exact scenarios) I have also experienced dreams within dreams and false awakenings. These have often centered on areas of anxiety which only increases during the false awakening due to me thinking I am infact awake.

Sometimes however, I am sure i didn't dream at all as nothing is present when I wake etc.

Anyway, i am absolutely fascinated by lucid dreaming. I did try for a day or 2 when I first descovered it a few years ago, but becasue nothing happened and to be honest I was waking feeling exhausted on the nights I did try, I gave up. Premature i know but the tiredness coupled with the frustration after i woke up fully remembering my dreams, but angry because i didnt realise I was dreaming, really put me off.

Anyway. i am going to soak up as much information as possible and commit to at least 6 months of experimenting. i will start with DILD and move on from there once succesfull at that.

One question i do have, what does it actually feel like? And what can you do when you are lucid dreaming?

Hi and welcome to DV! Learning how to induce lucid dreams takes some time for most people, so what you gotta do is set up long term goals for this hobby and realise it might take months before your first. Or just a few nights, no one can know for sure. Which techinque did you try out? I don't stay up or anything, I just rely on intentions and thinking of lucid dreaming before bed, also combined with a few mantras (short phrases you repeat for a few minutes, like; I will lucid dream) and you've got the basics of MILD.

And to answer your question; It feels amazing! You look around and know everything's created by your own brain, and it can be insanely vivid and realistic. Doing something impossible in the dream while being lucid is great, and I smile everytime I remember any LD with some decent control in it.
