WILD fail, need help

Hey, I'm just starting out, but I've known about Lucid Dreaming for some months, and been doing RC a bit, but recently I have gotten more interested, resulting in lots of RC's the last two weeks. :cheeky:

Anyway, the reason I'm posting here now is because I got problems and questions about WILDing. I've been trying it about 4-5 times now (only as a nap, not waking up at night). I still have some problems concentrating, but the two last times I got that part in good. O.K so the questions are

1. When saying no moving, does that include my tongue?
Because when breath through my mouth, I get F*cked up dry on my lips, and I start licking them. :panic:

2. Anyone else have problems with sudden twitching after a long time with no movement? :?
I usually never have sudden twitches or movements when awake, so I'm really unsure why this happens. Only reason I see is I'm not relaxed or concentrated enough.

I hope you are realizing you are trying a difficult and advanced technique. The chances are very high it won't work at all. Even i as an experienced L'D'er have a hard time making it work. I made this work on only two occasions, and it was so much trouble i stick back to DILD techniques which are way easier.

Seriously: if you just start out, do not try WILD. It's a sure bet it doesn't work. It sounds easy, i know, but it is a pretty tough technique to master.

It happens to me too. Just don't concentrate to much. If I start to think about WILDING or my body when I try to WILD I usually start to twitch.

1. Its ok to lick your lips if you want. The idea is to move as little as possible, but if you are worried/thinking about your dry mouth, then you are going to succeed anyway. Go ahead and lick your lips and thinking nothing of it. Just continue the technique. Make sure you are in a comfortable sleeping position and stay as relaxed as possible.

2. Twitching will happen. Just try to ignore it completely. If it happens, it happens, just pretend it didn't and stay in your relaxed position.

*Don't try too hard to WILD. TRYING TOO HARD is a recipe for failure. Just relax and allow yourself to fall asleep. A lot of people get wrapped up in not moving/etc. and forget that you have to fall asleep (it is required). The idea is just to stay consciously aware of the process. Make sure you are letting your body lay still as opposed to keeping your body still There is a difference. If you are focused on not moving and keeping yourself from moving, then you are going about the process all wrong. You need to be so relaxed that your body just doesn't move. Twitching and some movement is fine as long as you don't force anything. Just chill and try to "witness yourself falling asleep." That is the key. Good luck!

Completely untrue. I find it very easy to WILD, and I only started WILDing after the beginning of this year. Before that I probably had around six DILDs sporadically throughout the previous year.

I know that not everyone has much success with WILD, and I'm sorry that you are one of those people. But it doesn't mean that everybody else is going to have the same level of success you have managed to achieve.


@ OP, it's great that you're trying to WILD. It's a great technique, if you can learn how to master it. I mastered it relatively easily (apparently). Now, you can't move at all when you're WILDing. However, remember that you're always making progress toward sleep when you WILD. As long as you can manage to relax more deeply as you progress in your WILD, you're getting closer to sleep. Any movement does set you back, though, if only 'relatively'. To give you a better explanation, when you wake up in the middle of the night, you fall asleep more quickly. This is due in part to you being much more tired, and also because you're closer to a REM period. I find that I don't need to calculate my REM period to be able to WILD, but not everyone is the same.

If you're twitching, you're safe as long as they're unconscious twitches. You can't control your body's automated processes, and they'll more than likely not have much of an impact if you're not consciously doing it. After all, you go to sleep every night, right?


Good luck with your WILDing. Just keep practicing and you'll have a WILD soon enough.

don't worry so much about the twitching,
I heard is only deepens your sleep paralysis which is a good thing.

my biggest issue in WILDing is differing breathing patterns and swallowing,
swallowing is really annoying when you try to reach the rattling stage,
I find swallowing distracting, but if I don't swallow then I'll start drooling, which will further distract me.

WILD is hard! I decided to take a break from it for a few days,

Seems like I have to get better at relaxing, breathing and thinking less. Thinking less is really my problem, I'm one of those who can lie in bed for hours at night only thinking about stuff :p

If thinking is keeping you up, focus on relaxing. Having good focus is essential to WILD.
