New To The Forum - Crazy Dream I had Last Night...

Hi all, this looks like a great site and the perfect place to share my experience.

I've had scores of dreams in the past where I'm aware that I'm dreaming but usually I have no control and remember very little except for the fact that I knew I was dreaming, but last night....wow!

I was pretty much just hanging out in the street with my cousins chatting and having a few beers when suddenly I became aware that I was dreaming. I don't know what triggered me to feel this because the setting was completely average like a normal day but as soon as I realised, I got really excited and began running around, yelling and laughing like a crazy person. My cousins weren't paying any attention to me acting this way which didn't strike me as odd at the time but I guess that was the only odd thing about the situation.

I remembered a video I saw on youtube about lucid dreaming and tips on how to manipulate the scene so naturally I tried stuff...but nothing. I tried flying, jumping into the air but actually falling and hurting myself. At one point I lay face down on the warm sun-baked tarmac, closed my eyes and tried imagining myself floating off the ground....but nothing. After a few attempts, I started having doubts and the solidity and realness of my surroundings led me to think I was being silly. I gave up and re-joined my cousins but I felt so confused because I knew it was a dream. I was in complete control of my actions for what seemed like hours and I remember every detail but I remained bound by the laws of gravity, almost as if I couldn't entirely believe I could have this much control which was probably the reason why I couldnt manipulate anything.

Has anyone experienced this kind of dream? I would love to hear some thoughts on how I can break this gravity bound experience for the next time it happens.

      Hello jayrenik,

I'm also new to the forum, but not new to lucid dreaming. Obviously the youtube video gave you the knowledge lucid dreaming is possible. It is odd that you became lucid without strange things happening for you to notice. I'd be happy about that because that would be considered an advanced induction into lucidity. You simply did it, and that is impressive. As for your failure, remember it was your first lucid dream! Lucid control varies of course and requires cultivation. At the time, you had no previous lucid dream success to give you confidence in doing "impossible" things. Have faith that the next time, you will be able to do something impossible.

If you have another one and still have trouble achieving a goal, you might want to focus on easier tasks that are still beneficial. Simply maintaining lucidity is desirable, and therefore something to celebrate. Contemplation of your physical state is also desirable because it simply expands your awareness of your situation. The more awareness the better! Practicing things like spinning and hand rubbing would also be good because many lucid dreamers forget to do them and therefore lose their lucidity.

So anyway, congrats on having a lucid dream! I hope you have many more and do many fun, impossible things.

Edit: To "get over the hump" with flying, you might consider jumping long distances first. That will require less of a leap of imagination. If you can do some crazy long leaps, then flying might come easier.

Ah, don't we all ! Yeah, its best to take your time in lucids and try not to rush things. Just remember that there will be many more lucids where this one came from and take some time to enjoy them. Too many people get caught up in doing something quickly before the dream ends and that simply causes the dream to end, lol. Like mental suggested, work your way into the more complex forms of control. It took me several lucids before I could fly properly. Some people take off right away, but others just need to practice it. With your first few lucids...I would just practice the basic stuff. Instead of trying to go on an epic adventure right off the bat...practice flying, changing the color of some things, making grass grow, etc. Just some simply stuff to get you started, and then move on to more difficult stuff in later lucids. Good luck to you and if you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
