I consider myself to have very good dream recall. The thing is I sometimes get infatuated with the characters I meet in my dreams and can't stop myself from thinking about them. This, I guess is what attracted me towards lucid dreaming in the first place. The only danger I can see is of giving up "reality" for the sake of some "imagined" person who was never real and who never will be. (How can I make this person Appear again) or is it a one off thing ?.
Wow, now that´s something odd... I think I woke up once thinking about a dream charachter which I was very attracted to in a dream, but to live that frequently must be weird...
Still, I don´t think u can get like "addicted" to ur dream chars, although it sounds kinda sick to me... no offense
No doubt some Freudian dream analyst will tell me I'm totally obsessed with Myself. (LOL).
I guess it's possible (and probably likely) to be obsessed with a dream character. I mean, dreams are created by your mind, and therefore the characters are also created by your mind (if they don't exist in real life), so if the characters are created by your mind, then you've got the bad guys: the ones made out of all the characteristics you hate, and the good guys: the ones made out of all the characteristics you like.
So, I guess it's only natural for you to like one of the ones made out of all the characteristics you like. Chances are, it's your "perfect girl" (or "perfect guy" if you go that way).
If you're like, in love. with this character, once you fall in love with someone in real life, it'll override the dream love, I presume. I'd say ignore it, have fun in your dreams, but ignore it in real life.
Does that make any sense?
Oh, I've fallen in love with DC:s lots of times, but mostly when I was younger. When I was about 10-12 years old, i once fell badly in love with a cute darkhaired girl in a dream. She had big, beatiful eyes(green I think) and we were in a magnificent subterrainian cave wih a lake. Then we kissed. It was a really great experience for me, and I totally fell in love with her. I was really sad for a whole week because I knew she wasn't real, and that I could never meet her again. It felt exactly like real love, so it was tough. I never dreamed about her again, but I really wanted to, or even better, meet har in real life. That would have been something!
It's not unnatural to fall in love with a DC. Back in 3rd grade, I had the 2nd most powerful dream I've ever had. *thinks* It's funny how things and perspectives change over time. I don't even reacall if this character was in that specific dream, and it's possible that he is just a result of my imagination adding to that dream, but right now he's as connected to it as any of the other characters that I clearly remember.
At any rate, that dream came at a low point in my life where I was desperate to cling to just about anything that would bring me hope and peace, so it's no wonder that it's had such an impact. To tell the truth, I've clung to it for so long that I'm still having trouble letting go of it completely. In fact, it is on my LD "to-do" list to re-visit the three main characters from that dream and ascertain what I should do. I have given this dream a time limit before I drop it.
This isn't all that detailed because it's still one of the secrets I'm loathe to release.

I don't think it is unhealthy to have any kind of dream. But it may be more profitable to see what you can learn from it. It is your own mind and you can learn if you face your characters and ask them questions whether verbally or otherwise. But see if there is a meaning to be reviled from there existence, A good starter book to read and I just finished reading it is Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming

Ive also been attracted to a DC in dreams. I remember thinking alot of the DC during waking hours. And i think this is interesting... cause what we percieve during dreams is as real a construct the brain generates by itself, as what the brain generated by the signals from the senses during waking hours.
During waking life we meet and interact with real people... But anyhow physically real they might be... people, like everything else in our surroundings, are still fooded into our brain as signals from the senses, where the signals are given specific values. Like ugly/prette, stupid/smart, I like that/I hate that and so on. So if I do meet the perfect girl/ in real life, she in the end is a subjective mental image of what I believe to be the perfect girl, an aspect of myself. Everything percieved is a inner mental concept interprented by myself , just like a dream.
(SPOILER)I think the movie vanilla sky illustrated this point good. Where Tom Cruise falls in love with the lovely Penelope Cruz. Half way out in the movie we are suddenly taken inside his LD, where he still think he is still awake. He loves here like he did in waking life, shortly put, he live out his life like nothing ever happend.
My point is that the love, or any other feeling, your feeling towards another person/aspect of yourself, is all internal. But wheter the person is real or not the feeling still have the same effect on the personality. So the question is what you want, do you want dream girl or real girl. Without saying which is right or wrong, both alternatives have their positiv and negative effects.
i guess i must have passed this post by... i asked a similiar question but simply why do you fall in love with these characters... well the one that i have in my dreams is some i know in my waking life and i cant seem to get her out of my dreams... now that i realize it... when i see her there is something hypnotising about her face... although i think that i dont like her in anyway... pretty but someone i would definately not want to be with. i just want to get her out of my dreams actually even though i we fall in love in every dream shes in... my last 4 dreams that i can recall actually...

I really do go with Jammy's post on this. ie. internal stimuli effecting the external. After all, even though external factors may have some causal effect. don't babies dream whilst still in their Mothers womb never having met anybody at all. God, I'm getting way too Microcosmic. (Ok, I've got to say this..........Doesn't everyone look for a partner who somehow resembles themselves). It is pissing me off a bit to say that dreams are nothing but simple imagination. I have had far too many Psychic or Future dreams to realise this cannot be true. Just look at the experts here talking about oobs and the like.
I've been rather entranced with quite a few of my DCs -- none of which exist (to my knowledge) in real life. One of which was my animus, which seems quite odd to me, though it probably shouldn't. . . . However, I don't consider it healthy to dwell on a person at all -- especially when the person is only a construct of your mind (or, in my case, an aspect of my being).
If you are inexplicably drawn to a person you have only met in a dream, I can only suppose that you will find them someday. That is not meant to be a word of comfort or anything, but it seems logical. This could take place in two ways: either you will seek out something similar and find it in someone else (which is marvellous) or you will look inside and find it within yourself (far better, in my opinion, to know your animus than to project it on someone else).

I fell in love with one of my DCs last night, to the point where I was thinking of marrying him. However, I felt bad because I thought of my IRL b/f.... It made me feel bad when I woke up.

i've had a couple like that...one when i was about 15, a dark haired boy who would come to me and do things that i've only imagined in my head. I enjoyed it, and he came back two or three times...
More recently it's been a blonde guy, who's appeared two or three times in my dreams.
The end of that came when in one dream scenario we were having an affair, he took me back to his place, and i was confronted with his wife and young son!!
Needless to say, he hasn't been back since...
I've also had a couple of images of an elderly man trying to seduce me...now i have no idea what that means...
This is along the same lines as, say, having an imaginary friend, albeit one with a semi detatched conscioussness from your own (reread that and try to make sense of it :P )
Perfectly normal, i am usuallyvery attracted to certain DCs but ive never had a recurring one, so to speak.
I would label your experience as an infatuation (sp.?) and NOT love. Obviously since it is your mind you have the ability to create the perfect girl. So no i wouldnt think it's uncommon.
Just kick back and enjoy dreaming of her i guess ^^

My husband dream and fell in love with a woman in his dream, who in real life is just his plain officemate. He already had a real life gf at that time.
He married her, and happily married until now.
I am not keen to admit this but I did try to force a Sexual act on one of my dream characters the other night. Strange thing is that it felt like I was kissing a Shop Dummy. I mean the feeling was totally Numb. No response from the dc who seemed to behave like some soul-less entity and in a strange way it felt like I was kissing myself. Seems "Safety Cut-Out Switches" and Boundaries Prevail to stop us achieving our True Desires afterall.
i'm not so sure about that...i managed to do that but once...went to bed with someone i know in real life...it was good, but looking back on it now i wish i hadn't.
It just feels so wrong.
and since then this person has popped up, and things have been about to happen, but my brain has put a stop to them.
I for one think that you should have some kind of ethical code in dreams...lets face it, you recall your dreams right?
so why shouldn't you feel guilty if you kill someone, or tell lies? Especially if certain dream elements are a reflection of your waking state.
Just a thought.
HAHA, I was actaully thinking of posting this comment until I saw this because I had a dream I fell in love last night. When it was happening, it was awesome. But I woke up and forgot about the whole dream. But later in the day (during my AP test) I rembered her face and this chill went down my back. I coulndt stop thinking about her. Oh well. In my RL I felt like I really loved her.
Because they aren't real people and you aren't actually hurting anyone. Having said that, I never try to force sex on anyone in my dreams -- it's just not pleasurable to me if they don't want it also. If I approach one person and they turn away, there's always another that's eager. :)Quote:

Well Yes. I believe one should show Dream Characters the same respect as living bodies, as long as they deserve it.
