A really good step-by-step guide to lucid dreaming?

Hiya. I've just started back lucid dreaming, and my name is Sydney. If you've met me before, you may have known me as the regular "Sydney" on DV. But anyways, I wanna start fresh once more. Can anyone point me in the right direction on the BEGINNING of lucid dreaming, and how I can progress through to more advanced techniques (WILD, etc.). I have tried experimenting with WILDs before, and I've done all sorts of techniques, and they don't work for me. I haven't tried in a while, though.
If anyone can show me a good step by step guide (or in your own words) on lucid dreaming, I would be really greatful.

The wiki is full of good info but I'll give you a barebones guide.

1) Keep a dream journal every day.

2) Reality check. Remember to focus on why you are reality checking. Don't just do it.

3) look for dream signs.

4) sleep.

5) lucid dream.

I suggest reading Dr. Stephen Laberge's book "Exploring the world of lucid dreaming". That was his 2nd book. His first is also excellent and is simply titled "Lucid Dreaming."

"Lucid Dreaming" is an academic approach that explains his whole saga with his research. "Exploring the world of lucid dreaming" is more of a guide like you are asking.

Unless you have tons of extra cash or it is at your library I don't see the need to buy it. There are tons of tutorials and articles here. And you can PM me or any of the dream guides whenever you have a question.

Tons of extra cash? It cost $8 on amazon, and it's given me AMAZING information. It talks not only about techniques but about how dreams are formed, how to get places in dreams, spinning new scenes, LD problem solving, building LD workshops, fighting nightmares, healing dreams, strengthening your will, visualization training, and more.
It's the best $8 Ive ever spent.

With all due respect to Zebra, some people like to own books about their hobbies. I have a pretty large library of books on lucid dreaming and Laberge's work is at the top of the heap. Other's are adding on but to me Laberge is the biggest contributor to our knowledge by far.

Sorry if we sidetracked your thread. I do agree the wiki info here is excellent. In fact the opening tutorial is so well done I plan on copying and pasting it into a separate document to have offline as part of my collection.

EtWoLD is free online if you don't mind reading a PDF, I read about 50pages of it this way, but then I got kinda bored :?. It does serve as a really good start for beginners though; he describes things much better and more in depth than the Wiki does.

Buy and read ETWOLD. It's the lucid dreaming bible.

Thanks, everyone. I think what I'll do is check out the wiki - then I'll read some of the pdf ETWOLD. I have read ETWOLD before (I skipped some parts because I wanted to get to the techniques..not a very good idea on my part) and it was really thorough. But I'll check out them both. :)

Coincidentally, as far as Zebrah mentioned, why DO we do Reality Checks? I mean I do them but I don't think about them. I know why I do them but I, again, never think about it. What should one be thinking about when Reality Checking?

Well, when I do a RC, I am telling myself why i do it. Like "I do this to check if i am dreaming", and I am telling myself what would happen if it was a dream. Like "I could probably breath trough my nose if it was a dream."(the "plug-nose RC"
