Hi there!
I have had lucid dreams randomly throughout my life but never seemed to do anything particularly interesting whilst in them. Most of the time I would simply walk about a bit before trying to force myself awake. I didn’t even realise that I could do anything extraordinary within the dream until I found out that lucid dreaming was a well-researched phenomenon.
So, that’s how I came to find this forum and after familiarising myself with the terminology and techniques I am eager to start trying some out. I have already started with some reality checks and awareness exercises and within 3 days I had a lucid dream. I have a feeling it was more beginners luck than anything else and it was extremely unstable resulting in a false awaking that made me lose my lucidity (for some reason I didn’t think to perform a RC).
The thing I have the biggest problem with is dream recall though. I have begun writing a dream journal but I’m only really averaging 1 dream every other night. If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve this I would be very thankful.

Hi and welcome to DV! I don't think that was beginners luck. If you've had them naturally, then they should come more easily to you, so believe in yourself! If you think it was all you, then it will be even easier convincing yourself you will get lucid next time :)
As for doing things in dreams, I suggest you take an hour and think about what you want to do. Set a firm goal and you shouldn't have any problems when you're in them. Stabilizing is a great first thing to do, and after making sure the dream is stable, just move on to your second goal.
Dream recall takes some time to increase, but with daily practice you should notice an increase pretty soon. Just keep on writing in your DJ, lots of details is good. If you write them as stories you can always relive the awesome dreams you had later on by just reading :) To recall as much as you can, you have to lie completely still during the morning when you wake up. Shut your eyes after turning off any alarms and just let the dreams come to you. You can also "search" for them, by trying to evolve certain thoughts you might have in your head. A single picture can be enough to recall an entire dream.
If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck!
