was this lucid?

when i was attempting WILD this morning i started to get dream image thingys going past me eyes

i saw myself in a hallway outside with loads of doors and moss on the walls and i was controlling which doors i was opening. I was trying to open the doors and they wuddnt open. Then i opened a door and saw a table and chairs. I felt like i was controlling myself in my dream (if that makes any sence) i knew i was dreaming unall

any wisdom to bestow upon me?

well, did you have a moment where you thought 'i'm dreaming'? that is the classic definition of a lucid dream. You are dreaming, and know you are dreaming. You can control a dream, without realising you are dreaming.
if that makes any sense. I don't want to confuse you.
that knowing that you are dreaming is the sign.

i knew that i was dreaming but it felt sort of "semi lucid" coz i was opening doors that i wanted but i felt like i wasnt in full control

That's right Ben,

You can control a dream and still not realize you're dreaming. I've had tons of dreams where I'm into my character and I run, jump, leap and fly and go and do what I desire at will- but all I'm doing is going along with the flo of the dream and reacting as I see fit in certain scenarios of the dream. But technically, I'm not controlling the dream, just my own character.

Say a monster was chasing me in my non-lucid dream. I'm running from it and before me I see 3 buildings. I can choose whichever one I desire to go into- and then proceed. Eventhough, I used choice- this is still not a lucid dream.

As mentioned before, the classic definition of a LD, is the realization that you're actually dreaming within you dream. That realization alone, is a heck of an experience, not to mention all the possibilities that will follow.

I've been caught up in dreams before, when this realization hits, being triggered by something odd or unusual. Then whatever was happeneing just prior to that time, suddenly means nothing and just fades away due to me just ignoring it, as I now take control OF ALL the dream- as I stand their and contemplate on how I want this now LD to go. It's just so awesome and an experience much to be desired.

The bad thing is that the realization alone- being so great, can sometimes not only wake you up within your dream- but may cause you to wake up in real life too, ending your LD prematurely.

Keep practicing your techniques- and hopefully one will follow soon. Trust me, when you have one- you will have no doubt as to what it was. Good luck.

yes, Irish, you do have a point. Often I control things in my dreams, not because I know I am dreaming, but because I think I am awake and have suddenly received great magical powers.

The other night I dreamt that I could levitate chairs. I would pick them up by their backs and lower them until I felt them rest on a Force Field that would support their weight. It seems so real, that when I woke up, I tried it with one of my kitchen chairs... just to make sure I didn't suddenly have great magical powers.

I think you all missed one part of benhnat's post. He was talking about a WILD experience and when you're doing WILD, you don't have to realize that you're dreaming because you're conscious all the time and you don't lose your consciousness when you enter the dream.

What I understood is that the dream you talk about was during the WILD attempt. Am I right? In that case I think the real question is whether you were already in the dream or if those were just hypnagogic imagery before the real dream.

Anyway, if you was already in the dream, it was definitely a lucid dream because you knew that you was dreaming.

Semi-lucid doesn't mean that you'd have less control. It means a dream where you begin to have an idea that you might be dreaming but for some reason abandon the idea or come to a conclusion that you're not dreaming. At least that's what I've understood.
