New child!
Hi folks, I registered a while ago and I recently received an email telling me to post so here I am ;)
I'll try to keep it short. I've been lucid dreaming as long as I can remember. My first lucid dream Involved me fighting zombies in my backyard... I'd guess about age 7 or 8. I remember looking at the clock in my house and realizing I was dreaming and soon I would have to wake up and go to school. There was no "aw sweet I'm dreaming!" just "aw I hate school". Which remained a mantra for the rest of my life.
One of my most memorable lucid dreams was forcing the sun to rise. That felt pretty good.
A question I would ask to all dreamers is: Have you ever had a sudden memory of a dream you haven't thought about since you had it? Possibly years and years later? Lucid or not? What's that about!?!
And finally, one thing I would say to anyone attempting to lucid dream that hasn't but is reading this... just take comfort in knowing you may very well have had a lucid dream and just don't remember it. Persevere! Your dreams are worth it!

Noonchild, welcome to DV :).
In response to your question, this happens to me regularly. I have deja vu, on average, about once a day, and at least once every few weeks, I have deja vu where I recall a dream which happens months, possibly years ago. And I always remember that what happened in the dream is exactly what happened in real life at the time of deja vu.
As I see it, there are three possibilities. First, the memory of the dream may not be real, but just a trick of the mind. Second, the dream is real, and it demonstrated precognition abilities. Third, the dream is real, but the similarities are merely coincidences.
Going back to your post, you're absolutely right. Perseverance is the key; self confidence, hard work and patience are what make it up, and all theses are very important for lucid dreaming.
If you've got any other questions, feel free to post or send me a PM!

Welcome, Noonchild. Yes this does happen to me, a lot more just recently too. Forcing the sun to rise is awesome by the way.
