I mean, this is the Newbie Zone.
Anyway, I've been having way more lucid dreams than ever before in the last couple of months, and decided to join a forum on the subject. I'd love to be able to gain more control over the content within my lucid dreams, and figured this would be a good place to start.
Since it's five in the morning and I haven't slept a wink, I think I'll wind this thread up quickly with a few questions:
- What's up with that loud and painful buzzing noise that sets in before a lucid dream begins? Is this something that happens to everyone, or only a select few? I always get excited when I hear it, because I know what's coming next! :cheeky:
- Assuming you all practice various techniques, what do you find to be the most successful for inducing lucid dreams? I've only had WILD inductions, and those usually happen in series - i.e., I'll realize I'm in a dream, wake up, have a WILD, mess around, WILD, and so on and so forth. However, it's all without control, and I'd like to put as much of an end to the randomness as would be humanly possible
- What's a good way to "create" objects or bring certain people into dreams? I heard that you can close your "eyes" or pick up a telephone and try calling - does that work?
- Lastly, am I the only one that has negative experiences with mirrors in lucid dreams? I doubt it. I read a thread once that said the OP had looked into a mirror and been scared witless, so naturally I tried it myself. I saw this disfigured black blob looking back at me, and I panicked and woke up.

Bit of info about me - I'm college-aged, double-major in astrophysics and psychology. Hoping to go to med school, but if that doesn't work out, probably apply for a physics MS program and then reapply to med school. I figure skate, fence, and do a few martial arts.

The noise- part of the transitional stage of WILDing. Sometimes they can be soothing, calm noises, or sometimes even scary ones, like screeching of tearing metal. They are often paired with hypnagogic imagery. Sometimes they last seconds, minutes or hours, or never appear at all.
WILD is my favourite, but an easier one is supposed to be DILD, but that requires much more diligence with setting up dream signs and doing RCs.
Creating objects- If you turn round a corner, you have to 'expect' them to be there. Or opening a door, you have to expect your desired location to be there. You have to believe it's possible, or it wont be there. Sometimes, I fly up and then close my eyes as I land, and I'm somewhere else.
No, you aren't the only one to get scary experiences. Sometimes people get painful FAs, or get stuck in a chain of FAs. You just have to remind yourself that you're asleep and can't get hurt.

Hey, welcome! I'm new to lucid dreaming but I'm pretty sure the loud sounds you're experiencing is from sleep paralysis. Also a good method to spawn objects or people is to find a door and visualize them/it being behind the door, really know it and fully believe it.
