      Accidental WILD

Last night I was really tired and went straight to sleep. I woke up a couple of hours later but could not get back to sleep. This is not unusual for me, i'm a light sleeper at times and have trouble sleeping. So anyway, I decided to just relax, breath slowly and remove any thought that pops in my head, all for the purpose of trying to sleep. When I went to bed last night I wasn't too bothered wether I LD or not I was just tired. So i had laid there for what seemed about an hour and felt a little angry that I couldn't sleep. For some reason I did a RC, I pinched my nose and I could breath in and out with ease, I was NOT awake as I had thought. I do wear a sleep mask so even though I was asleep (apparently) all I could see was darkness, it felt exactly like I was still laid there trying to sleep. No thoughts, no dreams, I couldn't move my torso, I had no real emotion or fear or anything. It was very strange. I had purposely tried to WILD over the weekend and had a false awakening so it just shows how much more there is going on with a WILD than DILD that I usually try and prefer. Thoughts on what you would have done or what I should try if that happens again?

      Thanks for reading

      Peace

I've heard that this is actually quite common. Lots of people who complain of insomnia turn out to be just dreaming that they are awake. Once you get them in a sleep research lab, you discover they are asleep the whole time. They just dream that they have insomnia.

      Nice job!

So in your dream it was completely dark, and you couldn't move your torso?

I would visualize the dream scene that you want to be in, and then reach up to your eyes and take your "sleepmask" off. About not moving your torso, just remember this is your dream and you can do anything you want it in. Nothing can limit you.

Thanks for those responses, thats really interesting about the insomnia experiment and I did actually question myself as to how many times have I done this in the past, getting all annoyed in the morning because I didn't sleep much when in fact I may have just dreampt that I didn't sleep, it certainly opens up a new way of thinking for me.
Thanks for that advice Mancon too, I don't know why I didn't do that, I could move my hands/arms but nothing else, once I knew I was dreaming I should have removed the mask, but there is another reason I wear the mask, so maybe I naturally wanted to keep it there. I saw what I would call a shadow person when I was around 10 years old when I woke up during the night, it scared me to the core and although I have no fear of the dark as an adult I do fear waking up and opening my eyes to see the same thing. Thanks again.

Oh, this has happened to me! I was into Astral Projection at the time, so I thought of floating out of my body, but as it turned out, my whole body floated up and out, like something from Peter Pan. As for the Shadow person: One of the best things about dreaming, is that it allows you to conquer your waking fears. Sometime when your lucid, try confronting him! You might find out more about yourself.

Wouldn't that technically make this a DILD, since you never experienced the sleep paralysis? I don't know, I could be wrong. Anyway, I think now that I've read this I'm going to try that reality check when I'm sitting in bed more often. I've had false awakenings just about every time I've attempted a WILD, or just trying to lucid dream at all (I still haven't had any success). I suppose that makes being in bed the best time for me to perform reality checks. Anyway, did you do anything else in your dream once you realized you were dreaming?

A WILD doesn't have to go through SP, it's simply entering a lucid dream directly from a waking, conscious state.
