I don't want to lucid dream

I listed myself as new at lucid dreaming because I never even knew that that was what I was doing. That and I really never tryed to change what I was seeing. I usually just try to find the meaning of the dream I'm in. Or should I say I explore. I'm a mother of three and my sleep is truly important. I get plenty of sleep but always wake up just as tired as when I went to bed. I have been having as I was calling them vivid dreams since I was a child. However within the past month I have to dreams every night and then end up having to take a two to three hour morning nap after getting the kids off to school. I have the dreams then too. Some of them are fairly unpleasant and as I know it is a dream so I make myself wake up if it becomes unbareable. Sometimes I stay just because I'm curious. Well from what I am learning me staying in this state deprives me of my sleep. How do I stop it? Truth is I don't mind it sometime but I'd rather learn how to get past it so I can get some much needed real sleep. I'd like to feel refreshed not groggy all the time. I am only of those people that are sleeping my life away not wanting to. LOL For dream interpetors I have some funky ones if you want a challenge.

I can sympathize with you! My kids are almost grown, but I remember the days of little sleep.

Are you saying that the ONLY dreams you have are Lucid Dreams? All night? Some people would envy you for that.

How much sleep do you get a night, at least 7 I hope. One thing you might try, and this is a long shot. In your lucid dream, try to find a bed and take a nap. I know it sounds a little off the wall, but there is something about going to sleep in dreams. It will either result in me waking up or entering a non-lucid state.
Maybe you can to this a few nights out of the week to take a break from lucid dreaming.

Please give it a go, what do you have to lose?

I really don't want to be envyed it gets old. To answer your question yes most of my dreams are Lucid and truth is its not something I try to do. Its happened seens I was very young. I have done the bed trick many many times. Sometimes it does work sometimes it makes it worst because(I hope you understand this) I go to sleep and in my dream and end up dreaming in my dreams. So then it becames a layer of lucid dreams that I then have to wake up from. I wake up from each layer thinking I'm truly awake just to find out I'm still dreaming. There have been times I've had to wake up to 5 times in my dreams to actually be truly awake in reality. And yes I do get alot of sleep, problem is its still not enough. I'm soooo tired. Thank you for your suggestion though. All are welcome. I know this is a backwards problem and many would like to be in my place but I'm willing to trade with you if I could. I would like a vacation from it lol.

My first line sound a little wrong I mean the dreams get old not being envied. But you still shouldn't envy it is truly hard to deal with

This is my first time I've been to this site and I truly looked around for over 2 hours now and I'm seeing what you are talking about Seeker. I never realized how abnormal I am. I'm 26 almost 27 I don't know what you would call it but I could seperate from my body and have the feeling of floating and then walking around unseen by the time I was I think 7. I quit doing it because exiting and reentering my body started scaring my after I turned 18. I still do it unwanting to sometimes but I panic and make myself wake up. As for my overly vivid dreams they started at about the same time(age 7) but not very often. As I got older they got more and more often. Now at almost 27 I'm plagued by them. I wish I could tell everyone how I do it but in my case I'm clueless. I didn't know until today it was that big a deal. I came online today trying to figure out why I sleep so much and am still so tired. I never imagined it was because of the way I dream. Now that I know I'd like to find the off switch. I'm will to answer any question about my experiences but I am by no means an expert.

Well, being only 18, my experiance pales to insignificance against yours, but it seems to me that you're afraid of your dreams, or afraid to embrace them.

Nothing makes me feel more rested in the morning than having a lucid dream.

And since I began lucid dreaming about 4 or 5 years ago I have never had a nightmare.
I've dreamd of very frightening places and people, but when my fear rises I become lucid, I have nothing to fear in my dream world.

Have you ever tried sleeping in a lucid dream? Find a bed in the dream world and lay down? Maybe that could have an interesting effect...

Failing that it may wake you up peaceably, I'm willing to bet that when you wake yourself up, it's forced and takes the energy out of you, resulting in this feeling of unrest you have, where as if you let the dream fade through 'sleeping' in it, you may wake naturally as if you've just had a lay in.

1st off i've never lucid drempt before but i've done alot of studying,and i think i found a way to stop your lucid dreams. when in a lucid dream try to summon your self-coninsious
(I know horrable spelling) after succsessfuly doing this ask him or her to stop the lucid dreams.(the same will work backwards if u dont lucid dream often enough)

Latency I'm not fearful of my dreams, I am very aware of the fact I'm dreaming at the time. And I do embrace my dreams. Yes some of them are fearful or just strange.I'm always aware I'm in no harm. I don't believe in fleeing the fearful ones though. Sometimes there is a reason for them. I have never really tryed to control my dreams to the point of being able to see a place or person I want to see. (something new for me to try). I am more of a character, and that character can control what they do. To give you an example: The other day part of my dream was me in a small gas station all of a sudden a father started to scream for his child. I franticly looked around the gas station for the child, not seeing it I ran outside just in time to see a woman walking away from the station with a child in her arms with a blanket draped over the entire body of the child.(so not to be able to see the child's hair, face, clothing, ect..). I ran up to the lady screaming "That is not your child". After a brief struggle I managed to get the child out of her hands and she ran off.

I know this dream problably stems from own fears of someone trying to take my kids but the fact remains I'm wasn't scared to dream it or embrace it.

Seth is onto something here. I once helped a poor soul that was having nightmares everynight.

I told him to find a dream character one night and ask him why he was having these nightmares. He did this one night and the dream character replied "Because you want them"

He then shouted at the dream character: "No! I don't want them"

The nightmares stopped. This could work for you. Especially if you keep questioning dream characters and asking them to make it stop.

I know your case is a little different, but, while you are in this state, you pretty close to your subconcious.

Wow!! I never thought I would see the day when a Thread like this would arise in this forum. Ravenqueen I completely understand what you are going through, but the truth of the matter is, is that you can't get rid of Lucid Dreaming if you are a natural like yourself. The only thing I can suggest is learning to cope with it on a different level. Naturals cannot easily evade Lucidity but there is a way to Decrease the amount of Lucid Dreams.

ok this may work but im not sure. before you go to bed eat a big snack. if you do this while ur asleep ur brain will be working on digestion not dreaming. hope it helps

Nope bad idea. Sleeping pills do not result in healthy sleep patterns ;)
Yes, they'll reduce dreams and lucid dreams, but in theory they're also bad for your mental health

I agree sleeping pills are not the answer lol. I took Tylenol PM's a couple times and let me just say it make LDing much more graphic for me. I'm a anti-med person anyway. I really don't like putting man made chemicals in my body unless a must.

Other then that THANK YOU EVERYONE!! I only have one LD last night. It lasted longer then I like but it was only one. I sleeped in a little late lol but I feel refreshed. Thanks again to all whom have helped me. Like it was said I don't think mine can really be stop but now that I found this site I may be able to learn to cope better. :mrgreen:

Tylenol PM (or any OTC sleep aid) doesn't contain any real "sleeping pill" -- just an antihistamine. I guess some people get drowsy when taking antihistamines, but I for one do not.

Your lucid dreaming and your tiredness may be related, but also they may not be.

Regarding sleep, I have heard of some people who for medical reasons are literally unable to sleep, ever. It's a very rare but real disorder. These people can't sleep, but they have learned to meditate for hours at a time, and get restorative rest that way. So you may want to consider taking two fifteen minute periods in the day to meditate.

You may also benefit from a non-traditional sleep cycle. It's been proven through experiment that in the absense of social and environmental clues, the sleep cycle can become very non-traditional. People can sleep for days at a time then be awake for days at a time. So the 18 hour on, 8 hour off pattern is just one possibility. I personally think that regular naps are a more natural sleep pattern than once a day sleep, it's just that most of our jobs don't allow it. If your schedule allows, experiment!

Somtimes doing the opposite of what seems intuitive is helpful. For instance, some monks sleep on an unpadded, hard surface, not as a form of self-torture, but because in time, their own muscles become a natural padding, leading to greater rest. Perhaps your bed is too soft and comfortable. Working out during the day (not right before bedtime) could also help. It will tire you out physically, preparing you for sleep. It will also lead to better breathing and circulation, which could be effecting your rest. Some of the most refreshing sleep I ever got was when I was camping for weeks, doing vigourous hikes during the day, then sleeping on the ground at night.

Regarding lucidity, I think you do have a gift. It may be an unwanted gift, which is not uncommon. Some people are lucky to have always loved nothing but basketball, and then end up in the millionaire professional basketball players. Others are brilliant artists who are tortured by their need to get certain images out onto canvas or words onto page and end up commiting suicide. Of course, you have every right to dislike your "gift" and even to try to avoid it. But if you've been fighting with it unsuccessfully, experiment with embracing it and see what happens. Like I say, maybe it's unrelated to your problem getting enough rest.

Since you're "a natural," and don't have a technique for attaining lucidity, you may think you can't help others. But I'll bet that if you study what happens before and during your dreams, you will be able to offer advice to others who would love to have your abilities. That sharing will certainly make you feel better, if not less tired.

Try learning how to meditate. It'll take some practice and effort, but it'll rejuvenate you when you're awake and feeling tired, and can give you something to do while you sleep that will make you feel even more energetic upon awakening

I can't imagine this not helping, but be advised it's a discipline that won't come overnight, though practicing in your dreams certainly can't hurt. It'll be a way to keep your lucid dreams and change their energy from negative to positive.

You say your Lucid Dreams are stopping you from getting a restfull night sleep, but in my opinion I think having lucid dreams is indirectly causing loss of sleep. The mental activity of a lucid dream does NOT cause someone a restless night; it is the context of the dream that does. If you dream of being chased all night and doing mentally/physically exhausting things, its likely that you'll be tired the next day.

Lucid Dreams for many can make you feel even more refreshed the next day. I believe it truely depends on whether conflicts were resolved in the dream and if you were dreaming about stressfull verses peacefull things.

I think the answer simply lies in trying to direct your dreams in a more peacefull way. Do something enjoyable in the dream such as flying or something.

I really doubt removing lucid dreams from your night is going to solve much. It's probably only a temporary solution that will only work for a while.

If I were you, next time I had a lucid dream, I'd start asking dream characters what is the best way for you to get a restfull night sleep on a regular basis. I'm sure they'll have personalized and helpful techniques that you can use.

It is so easy for people to say so many things about me. All I can say is YOU HAVE NO CLUE!! It is easy for one to say I want a LD. Or even one once in a while. I was basicly born with it and it is not always a blessing, I am truly tired of hearing it is a blessing. I about 3 months ago Watch a woman get her head cut off and put in a filing cabinet"? At a major business. I saw another woman in the room who never called in the crime. She dimissed it happened.In the next LD after that I layed down to sleep in my bed, all of a sudden the night stand beside me flew open and the head begged me

It's been nice to chat with you a little over the last couple of days. I am wondering if you may want to pursue a slightly different angle. Have you had a physical exam lately? There may be an underlying physical problem for you being tired all of the time, especially if you are getting a good amount of sleep. For example, hypothyroidism is a common ailment that will drain your energy. And it is controlled easily with medication. There are other medical problems that could be at the root of your tiredness as well. This is just another thought to throw into the mix.

Thank you to all the wonderful people whom have been nice and helped me realize I should embrace my gift. I did however get frustrated the other night. (no reason to lash out though) with people telling me I was was stupid for not embracing me gift.

Calmseas, I am actually going to go to the doctors to get bloodwork done so see if I was find an underline cause. Its been nice talkng to you too.

I can't begin to know what it is like for your consistent lucid dreaming. I certainly think everything should is meant to be in moderation.
I think syntex had a good idea about doing things that calm you in your dreams. Our minds use as much energy while in a dream as they do while awake.

Going back to your other experiences. You were having OBE's at a young age. But you stopped. Do you still have them?
And if i am not mistaken. Do you proclaim to have prophetic dreams?

Do you have a general theme in your dreams? (I will mention why I ask later) . Any recurring signs?

What about those herbal sleeping pills. Are they bad? I often take them if I wake up in the early hours and they very often help me have lucid dreams.

What about........ forgive me if this sounds silly since I haven't actually been lucid....

what about if you try to spend your lucid dream meditating or deeply relaxing? Just try to spend your whole dream focused on how relaxed and refreshed you feel. Maybe that would carry over and you could wake refreshed.

That is what I would try in your situation. (Honestly, I would try about a million other things before I would go out of my way to stop Lucid Dreaming :D )

Wow this thread got raised from the dead. So some of the newer people who have posted as you can see I'm still here and still LDing. :D Thanks to this wonderful site I'm learning to embrace my gift. I still have a long way to go but I have also come a long way. Thank you all for your advice.

My general theme is organizing and fixing chaotic events. And recurring signs are chaos lol. Its hard to explain I know it sounds weird. Everytime I post one of my LDs for people to read I always get "You life is chaos so then you dreams are chaos". My life now is a simple nonchaotic life for the most part. So I really disagree with those comments. I think my LDs as more adventurous and challenging.

Picked on..I will make sure that is not the case...interested> absolutely!
*As though it was some type of connection. My mother my oldest sister and my grand mother had several experiences with prophetic dreams.
My mother has since passed away. Since then neither my sister or my grandmother (who by the way, turned 100 :shock: this year) has had any that I am aware of. Since 1995.

Thank you! My vocabulary is a bit lacking and that is exactly the right word I was looking for. When I'm LDing its like I'm someone else, and its my job to make decisions to protected the person I am and in some cases the people around me. Strange huh lol :?
