Returning to the ground=returning to reality

Wow! The second LD in less than a week. I’m so glad I found this site with all its tricks and tecniques. What seems to be working for me, is to fall asleep using a mantra that I will question my reality. I was a little sceptical that the idea would cross over or that I would “remember” to do it…but it works. I don’t seem to do any reality checks (like plugging your nose or counting your fingers). As soon as I think “Hmm this seems odd”….Bam! I know it’s a dream. A tell-tale dream sign for me is gravity. It doesn’t seem “right”. Not as heavy or strong. My connection to the ground is somewhat weak. I’m getting over the excitement that used to cause me to wake up right away and this last time I actually remembered to tell myself to stabilize and anchor to the dream. This is hard to explain but somehow I seem to be equating the “ground” to my waking conciousness. In this last dream I became aware I was dreaming and took off for a prolonged and very controlled flight. After a while I thought “now I should try and do something else”. I thought I’d go down and find some people. I soon as I started to descend, I knew I was waking up and try as I might, I just couldn’t reverse it or stay up. I’ve never actually made it back to the ground and still been asleep. In the past, I’ve just spontaneously started to lose altitude but this time I felt I could have stayed up forever if I hadn’t made the decision to land. What a drag! I know there are folks who’ve been trying and trying and never gotten this far yet. Maybe I’m just being greedy….but I want more!

Congratulations on your success! :) Whenever the thought: "Perhaps I'm waking up now" crosses your mind, you will wake up. Don't even think about your body in bed, if you might be stuck in a coma (you don't dream in a coma anyways) or things like that. Just go with the flow, and keep yourself anchored to the dream by doing some stabilization techniques now and then.

I also have trouble staying in the dream when I fly. Short flights work for me though, and perhaps if you keep your eyes on the ground while you do it, you'll have an easier time staying in the dream.

Don't get discouraged if you don't manage to stay in the dream for more than a few minutes in the beginning, a few minutes of lucidity is gold. I still don't have more than 20 minutes long ones, and I've had more than 100 LD's since I started.

You seem to be talented at realising your dreaming, for me, I'm not thinking when I'm not lucid, it's just like a story which makes it hard for me to realise I'm dreaming.

Arch, I hear that. (not thinking when you’re not lucid part). If I was talking to a guy, who tuned into a fish and then became a parrot riding a bicycle it all seemed so acceptable because it was like I was watching a movie. I’m telling ya though, going to sleep repeating that I will question everything is really working for me. As I said earlier, I doubted that I would “remember” to do it, because it seems you would need some degree of lucidity in order to suspect that something wasn’t quite right. Certainly, I don’t question the reality of everything (including some very strange things!) in my dreams but it’s happening more and more and when it does happen it’s a real “aha” moment. “of course this is a dream!”
