Newb: Is my "EGO" protecting me from Lucid dreaming!

Hi guys. I now finaly want to practice for real to LD. I have practiced "unprofesionaly" for my self for a long time. And so far the best way for me is, as far as i can tell for now, when I try to enter while falling asleep. I am a big fan of binaural beats anyway and I use them to meditate and falling asleep and they help me big time.

But here is my problem. I lay down and relax, i focus on breathing. Then i start to see bright lights sometimes just white, sometimes very colorfull and on good days some amazing geometric forms along as well. But allways it goes down the same way. I look at it as if through a window or a door. So when I decide to pass through to fully enjoy the "other world" the door "contracts" like a muscle and i cant pass through. I then come back to full awareness and he process starts over again.

It just feels as if there is something holding me back, is feard to go through, that i cant controll, because I want to go through so hard but it wont let me.
Anyone knows how to solve this? :D

You're using the WILD technique. I don't know much about this but I suppose it could by a wide variety of issues: fear itself, stubbornness, doubt, or ego. Just believe in yourself. Imagine how wonderful it would be to LD. Keep praacticing and youre bound to succeed. Take a look at The Beginner's Guide to Lucid Dreaming for other help. Best of luck!

I like what he said. Really, there's no way to REALLY know what's holding you back... but there's an easy way to solve this (many ways actually). Simply let go of all fear and view lucid dreaming like an enormous playground. You can do whatever you want, be whatever you want, see whoever you want, anything.

Anxiety can be a hell of an opposing force, when it comes to lucid dreaming. It doesn't matter if you're not actually scared of lucid dreaming, but even being overly-excited and aware can be a hinderance, because it keeps you from fully relaxing. There are a few 'mental blocks' I've experienced (like my - so far - inability to fly into space from the Earth), and it can be really hard to find out exactly what it is that holds you back, in such situations. In your case, though, I think it might just be relaxing enough to transition into the WILD. Keep trying, though. Realize that it's only temporary. The more you look at it as your mind "not letting you" go into that state, the more you're going to make that feeling a reality. The trick is to realize that you have control over the transition. You just have to be comfortable with it and relax into it.
