Flying or floating?
Hi guys,
I had my first ld a few weeks ago after about two months of practicing. In the dream I tried to fly as I heard it was the most common thing people do at first. However I ended up pressing my hands against the wall and letting my legs float up. Could this be a cause of lack of dream control or maybe a subconcius fear of nights. I'd love to know your opinions and to know wether I will in time be able to fly,
Thanks.

Hey MrZhume, congrats on the lucid. :content:
It could be either, but I'm going to put my bet on lack of control. When you want to fly (or do essentially anything else in a lucid), you have to imagine and picture how you're going to fly. If you just say, "I'm going to fly now" without doing anything else, the dream will render its own version of what 'flying' is, whether it be floating or something else. You have to help the dream out by visualizing your method of flying, and knowing 100% that you'll be able to do it. Also, don't think of flying as a chore or get worked up about it; just do it without a second thought. If you look and feel like you've done this a hundred times before and will be able to fly with no problem, it'll help a lot. :)
Good luck.~

Just think of Puffin and you'll fly like a.... Puffin.

i usually use my inner energy to fly like to do in dragon ball z with it being a big part of my childhood tv its sort of the kind of things i generally do within my dreams.
Although when my dream control has been bad i have morphed wings onto myself and used wings to fly.

You'll have to try different methods of flying, some dreams it's easier to fly than others. Usually i have to get a running start or something, it's strange XD Just try out different things and methods of flying

When I flew, I did it with a goal in mind. Like where I was going to go and how I was going to start flying. I was on the freeway, I opened up the door and jumped out, I immedietly started to fly and I flew to Phoenix, AZ which is 30 miles from my home and I met up with some friends. It was a really thrilling experience, but I do think it was a lack of control. Try again next time and concentrate!

Wish I could do this, try the old Hitchiker's Guid technique, throw yourself at the ground and then just before you hit it, get distracted by something and miss. You should just hover there a few inches above the ground looking rather foolish :P Then you can fly :)
