You can dream for weeks in one dream. It is very hard to do and mainly happens be chance. I had a dream that lasted 2 hours. I am unlucky sometime. I sometimes dream about an hours worth of dreaming in a night on average. That is a sad night.
Time doesn't have much impact in dreams. Just think of the times you may have fallen asleep and had a long half-hour dream, but when you wake up only two minutes has passed. It's my theory that since the mind doesn't have any external stimulus to process, it's free to work at the speed it wants to. I haven't had enough LDs to play around with time-dialation but some people around here have.

The longest dream I had seemed to cover about a day at least. Or at least a number of hours.
There is some argument as to why this can happen, but the most plausible reason is the one that Ame provided, about your brain performing faster due to lack of syncing with external stimulus/senses.
Another good reason is because your dreams can play out like a movie.
Eg. You're in the car, going to go to the shop <clever editing> You're at the shop.
You don't have to experience the full detail of every moment while going ot the shop in order to believe the time passed :)
