So I pretty much have to reality check inside a dream to be lucid?
nope, in fact the majority of people would say that they become lucid before doing a RC, and then perform the RC afterwards to confirm the fact that they are dreaming. I would look into the various "awareness" tutorials on this site rather than performing multiple usless RC without any thought behind them. Look up SAT technique (sporadic awareness) and ADA (all day awareness) and combine those with RC
Also, doing a RC in a dream will not neccesarily make you lucid, I did a RC in a dream once but never became lucid and woke up soon after, you have to actually be aware that you are dreaming, and usually you will be able to remember things from your waking life and be able to do whatever you want in the dream.
What lawilahd said. The method that involves doing reality checks is called DILDing and reality checks are just a part of the technique.
There are several other main methods you can use to help you attain lucidity. You can find a list of all the main methods/descriptions http://www.dreamviews.com/f12/lucid-...hniques-66857/. Once you find a technique, you can find tons of tutorials around the forum and the wiki about that technique and learn more about it.
If you don't know what technique you would like to do you can check out my thead: Find out What Technique is Right For You! The thread also links to some good tutorials for each method (WILD, DILD, and MILD.)
Good luck getting started! Many lucids to you! :)
Personally I've found that I only use RC's to confirm it is a lucid, the thing that causes me to become lucid is the increased awareness caused by something odd happening, or by pure luck!
