is it your own personal preference? or is there a set definition?
Hi there radical-Dreamers,
Personally i believe that it is a mix of the two. There are some set definitions of a DG, one simply being that they will display a much greater intelligence than the rest of your dream characters. Your Dreamguide usually will tell you things about yourself, or if you ask him/her a question he will answer, but be prepared they will not lie or sugar-coat anything.
Besides it being clever, the rest is personal preference - or so i believe anyway.
I hope you meet yours, its a thrilling experience :D
My definition of a guide is basically a manuscript which helpes people accompolish a specific goal or task.
I think a dream guide is what happens when your sub conscious stops being a jerk. They also tend to be the opposite sex (or same sex if you're homosexual).
Pretty much directly talking to your subconsioud
For me, a dream guide is the self-representation of your unconscious mind. Personally I believe that is not easy to find yours, because it's a long and hard journey (from what I heard). I also feel that meeting him/her is a hell of an experience, because the sense of connection must be even greater than the one you feel when you find the love of your life...
I mean, you're interacting with your true self! :panic:
Lately I had a dream with me talking to a guy (probably my DG) and he was telling about importance of false awakenings and such and in the end, before the dream ended, he asked me if I was ready to LD, I wasn't controlling myself, so the answer was no.
After that, I imagined him and I meet again, and I said I was ready. BAM! First LD that night. I just imagined, no dreaming involved. Talk about talking to your subcouncious, lols
IMO, Dream Guides are terrifying dream-monsters in an alluring, trustworthy form that want nothing more than to devour your soul and turn you into a dreamless-zombie-mutant-thing-that-is-also-probably-an-alien.
PROVE ME WRONG I DARE YOU!
Translated from Troll:
It doesn't matter what anyone says; you should try to figure this stuff out on your own, since listening to other people is only going to jade what experiences you'll end up having.
Dream Guide
1A dream character and manifestation of the subconscious, that often has more impact on dream events and appears more intricate to the dreamer, in both personality and behavior, due to predetermined expectation and bias.
"John tried to explore his subconscious using his dream character."
2A paranormal phenomenon in which a dreamer communicates with what is believed to be a spirit or an entity that is assigned to each dreamer to give advice and guidance. Dream guides are said to appear in the form of animals or people that have relevance to the dreamer, and can not have their appearance forcefully changed.
"My dream guide warned me away from leaving the house on Saturday."
"I don't believe in dream guides."
3The title given to a section of Dreamviews staff who are assigned to work on Dreamviews content and material (esp. tutorials and written work) and can moderate selective forums.
"Puffin was a Dream Guide at Dreamviews."
"The Dream Guide closed the topic, but for good reason.."

My dream guides are any character that helps me, gives me advice, or otherwise guides me in the dream. They normally stand apart from the rest of the dream. Either they don't fit into the narrative, they surprise me, or they address me directly as a dreamer. They are often frightening or unsettling characters. This is probably because I try to address and embrace any nightmarish elements in my dreams.
