Do my nightmares count as LDs? And could I use nightmares to induce LDs?

I was never able to go though my nightmares, they always ended in my death. However, right before I hit the ground or got bitten by an alligator, I instinctively thought "I'm in a nightmare, WAKE UP!!" Then I would close my eyes in the dream world, opening them in real life. Does this count as lucidity, and could it induce a lucid dream?

In fact, I actually remember a couple years back I had a nightmare that I had to get around an alligator infested pond. I didn't think the alligators were hostile, so I swam. Next thing I knew a gator was chasing me as I back-pedaled to the shore to get away from it. I then realized I was dreaming and closed my eyes, but didn't wake up, so I thought if I let the gator bite my leg the shock would wake me up. however I was overcome with fear that the bite would actually hurt me, so I swam to shore and cowered. The crocodile tried to chase me, but couldn't survive on land, so it left. Then, at the calmest point of the dream, I closed my eyes and woke up. I don't think I've had a single nightmare since.

So I was wondering, are these really LDs, and could I induce nightmares and turn them into LDs?

Yes, those dreams are lucid dreams and you probably could induce nightmares to induce lucid dreams. My first few lucid dreams happened much like yours and I forced myself to wake up from them. I don't recommend trying to make nightmares happen unless you actually like them or tolerate them more than most people. Another problem with it is sometimes the first thing you would want to do in a lucid nightmare is wake up. After waking up you would then realize that you should have teleported to a beach or something.

I don't necessarily want to purposefully induce nightmares, I was just wondering if I could find a way to turn my next one into an LD, if possible.

Instead of giving into your nightmare, take it on. When you realise you're dreaming you can pretty much do anything once you get your dream control down. So instead of saying, "This is a nightmare, wake up!" Think of it like you just got superpowers or something. "This is a nightmare, I'm dreaming. You're my b!tch (alligator)" *Turn around face alligator* "Take this motherf**ker!" and smash it's face into the ground with your bare fist. :lol::shadewink: Honestly though, that's what'd I'd do. You just got to realize that in a dream, you completely control it. Make it your b!tch.

Yes, some use their nightmares to induce LDs, I myself have had alot of LDs induced thanks to the nightmares, pretty awesome feeling turning the situation! DOMINATION! ;D;D

Of course you could use these to your advantage! When I was younger, I used to become lucid in my nightmares and purposely walk towards the monster so it would kill me and I would wake up.
Since I got into lucid dreaming, I think I've used 2 or 3 nightmares as advantages.
One time I was dreaming that I was in the forest with my dogs, when suddenly I noticed a big bear running towards me, I realized it was a dream and threw a kamekameha at it, and then carried on with my lucid dream.
In another occasion, I was attempting WILD, when I got into sleep paralysis Samara from The Ring appeared beside my bed (Hypnagogia), and when I made the transition into the dream, she was still there. I simply told her to get the fuck out of my dream, and she did.
