Hello Dillan :welcome:
To my knowledge, lucid dreaming gives you the ability to wake up on command. The idea that you can get stuck in there and not wake up is silly. It's kind of ironic really that you would worry about being trapped in one when the challenge is staying inside. :P
You'll be perfectly fine. Trust me. :)
I've had over 90 lucid dreams so far. I always use DILDs and MILDs because I'm a natural lucid dreamer. It's just simply what works best for me. I have tried to do WILDs before, but they always failed. I don't really have the patience to sit still for an hour doing nothing.
haha, afraid you won't wake up, i wish i had that problem :P But yes you can wake up on command, if you're in a Lucid Dream and want to wake up, (heck knows why ;) ) then i guess just close your eyes and fall on your back imagining yourself waking up, make sure to do a reality check when you wake though so you know it's not a false awakening (finger through the palm or noseplug is usually the best.)
Also techniques are different for each person, much like i guess people have different ways of revising or different ways of thinking even some techniques work better for other people, the best thing is to look up different kinds of techniques and try them out, although don't get frustrated if you don't catch on straight away even the most experienced dreamers have dry spells.
The best technique is to lie in bed every morning and try to remember the dream and then write it down :) your DJ is the most important thing along side the technique which works for you :)
Welcome to DreamViews!
Were you trying the WILD technique? What you experienced sounds like hypnagogic hallucinations, which happen often during sleep paralysis when you attempt to WILD. This is nothing to be afraid of. The following quote is from the WILD Tutorial:
The WILD technique is usually not recommended for beginners, since it is quite difficult to do. However, it sounds like you got very close to a lucid dream already, so this might be the right technique for you. Keep it up! :)Quote:
The memory footprint hypnagogic hallucination is the one that tells you that you are getting close to a lucid dream. It happens when you are hovering between the subconscious and conscious minds, dipping into the subconscious to pick up a part of a dream image, but then coming back out.
Ironically, you being scared will wake you up sooner than you wish. When you're emotionally ready to have longer lucid dreams, then you will; lack of sudden emotion shall keep you in there longer.
I'm New too. I was wondering if anyone could help me? This is for when its not natural: My lucid dreaming problem is that when I sleep I realize I'm sleepin but once I start dreaming I get excited and sort of wake up. Only I dont know if Im actually up or not. I am a natural lucid sleeper (It happens naturally and random) but I wanna become a "On-command" Lucid Sleeper (having the ability to lucid dream whenever.) I tried the WILD one(I think thats what its called) where you lay perfectly still and wait to hallucinate/dream with your eyes open but it hasnt worked yet. Please, if someone can give me advice to the 1.excitement to actual lucid dream. 2. failure to WILD technique it would be really appreciated. thanks in advance.(:
That's right. There's no need to be afraid of those hallucinations. Just remember: they're only hallucinations. They can't hurt you in any way. Usually as soon as you realize this, you should feel more comfortable next time you experience them. You might even find them interesting and eventually even start looking forward to them.
It sounded like you were pretty close to a lucid dream. Was this your first try at the WILD technique? If so, then you should definitely keep trying this technique. A lot of people only get this far after trying this technique for at least a week, if not longer.
