My first lucid!!
I can't believe it, but I had my first Lucid! It was not exactly as I had planned, but it was an amazing in dream experience. I plan to post the full dream in my dream journal, but I'll give you my first thoughts now. I don't even remember how I realized it was a dream. The first thought I remember was "I'm DREAMING!?" Then, as I began to walk I thought "I can't believe I've finally done it. But if I get excited I'll wake up. Don't wake up, don't wake up, don't wake up don't wake up..." Funny enough, I didn't wake up. But I believe I made one big mistake. "What should I do?" I thought, "I guess I'll just go through the dream as I normally would and see how it plays out." Why did I do that? I entered the only realm where I am in total control and I just ignored it.
The sad thing is that I didn't do anything special to induce a lucid dream. I guess it was just a DILD and my reality checks finally worked. Which only means I'll be even more sure to do them!!
Most of all though, I would like to thank the creators and members of this site which have inspired me to try lucid dreaming. Thank you.

Congratulations. I'm sure you would feel accomplished. I had my first proper LD today too!
I guess you have to keep in mind that you're still dreaming, so don't be hard on yourself for making poor choices (I did too). Hmm... I'm not sure how useful the actual action of a reality checking is. Either way, reality checks would always be useful for getting you used to the idea that your environment is fake, and doubting unusual things. Both times that I have realised I was dreaming, I was about to reality check but I became aware that I was dreaming before I got the chance.
Our gratitude lies with DV. So many lucid dreamers are born here.

Congratulations!
Just keep on practicing and you will have far more to come!

Congrats to you on your lucid!
Most people get lucid because they realize something is off, or it just happens. That's why it's important to question reality and practice daytime awareness - check out the tutorials in DV Wiki.
After you realize you are dreaming, you do RC, to confirm, that you are dreaming. RCs don't get you lucid, but they can confirm dream or reality.
Yes, what you had was a DILD. Don't beat yourself down. You did the best thing by not trying anything too wild. It probably would have awaken you.

Congrats!
Keep up what you're doing, cause you're obviously doing something right!
