Welcome to DreamViews, Ginge! :)
A lucid dream is a dream in which you are aware that you are dreaming, while still inside the dream.
If your dreams are getting more frightening, it could mean that you are worried about something. Things like stress and anxiety are known to cause nightmares. When you go to bed, is there anything that worries you?
Dying in your dreams is something that is normal, according to my own experience. If, however, this is something that occurs more and more often in your dreams, it may have to do with something that you are worried about, as mentioned above.
I hope this helped clear things up a little. If you still have questions, don't hesitate to ask.

If you have good recall then you should be able to lucid dream easier, try to use frightening dreams as a dream sign to help you become aware.

I suggest you start by reading through Puffin's Beginner's Guide to Lucid Dreaming. This guide covers all of the basic information about lucid dreaming, and will tell you how to get started.
Even though you already have very good recall, I still recommend you keep a dream journal. This can be helpful when looking for recurring elements in your dreams, or dream signs.
The best techniques for beginners to start with are the DILD technique and the MILD technique, as these require little preparation. Due to its difficulty, the WILD technique is usually only recommended for more experienced lucid dreamers.
