Faillure #3 My first lucid dream since I joined!

So last night I finally had my first lucid dream since I joined the forums!

I was in a room I believe, when all of a sudden a strange photoshopish light appeared. I recognised it as highly unusual and that's when I realised I was dreaming and entered a lucid state, everything became very vivid etc.

While finally in a lucid state I thought it was better to turn off the light for a few seconds to let me focus. The light was off:I couldn't see anything anymore, lost the control over my dream and lost my lucidity.

That's basically it.. Has this ever happened to any of you? How could I prevent it from happening again?

      Thanks for reading (:

Congrats on your lucid! Lights are finicky things in dreams and some use them as reality checks. Some people even say that lights don't work in dreams, but in your case they do. It seems to me that turning off the light was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. When you first start out your dream control and the stability is not very good. I found that, in my case, after about my 5th or so lucid I could really start doing some crazy stuff and I wouldn't wake up. However, the first few times I tried to do anything I woke up right away.

My advice would be to just keep practicing. Your dream control and overall stability will increase with time and the only way to get better is to practice.

Thats awesome for you! I am still waiting on my first lucid. May I ask about how long ago did you join the forums, and have you been working on any special methods during the day, etc? I just want to know because I just joined about a week ago.

      Thanks for the responses! (:

Yea, maybe next time I should just try to focus without the light off.

      To Dragonmaster21:
I joined about 4 weeks ago I believe, so the LD came relatively quick.
The only things I basically do are reality checks.
I do them at several moments:
-Whenever I don't know what to do
-Whenever I forgot what I was doing or was going to do
-Whenever I just mindlessly stare at things (staring outside the window for no reason for example)
-And at random or strange moments

I'd highly reccomend doing reality checks at these moments as well because they happen very often (atleast to me they do), they are easy to remember and don't require that much attention to your surroundings (like for example when you do a reality check every time you enter a room, see a mirror etc)
These things make it quite easy for you to make reality checking a habit since one normally has nothing better to at the moments I mentioned and in dreams they happen quite often as well.

I have 3 reality checks (I don't do them all at once though):
      1. Biting on my finger
      2. Counting my fingers
      3. Pulling my nose

So yeah, that's basically what I do. I hope the information I gave was useful to you! Good luck (:
