      Hey Guys!

Hey people, I've been interested in Lucid Dreaming for a few days now. Dream Control is something I have always wanted to do. I can't quite remember how I found out about it, but I thought it was something that only existed in films (Vanilla Sky).

I have kept a Dream Journal since saturday, noting down what I have done in the day and what I dreamt that night as well. I can remember one dream on Saturday night, which I was able to relate certain things to in real life. However, the next two nights, I couldn't remember anything. I am trying to set a trigger to be able to remember what I dreamt about by looking at a poster in room when I wake up. Last night was a bit different though.

I decided to try and listen to some music that is supposed to help with Lucid Dreaming. I fell asleep after a while (it always seems to take me ages to fall asleep) at about 1.45 am. I then woke up at about 5.15 am with my Ipod out of my ears and needing the toilet. So as I went I could remember a dream I was having so I jotted it down in my journal and had a cigarette to keep myself awake for about 10 mins thinking it might help with that certain technique (WILD? WBTB?). I didn't listen to the music again this time. I woke up earlier only remembering one dream so I wrote that down too. After about 10 minutes I remembred another one (at this point I was up and doing stuff) so I wrote that down aswell. Does this mean I'm getting closer to LDing?

I'm trying to perform reality checks numerous times a day. I keep trying to 'pushing fingers through hand' and questioning myself. So here are a couple of questions:

      1. Does music like Binural beats help with Lucidity?
      2. It really seems like the last thing I'm going to do in my dreams is perform a reality check. My dreams seem quite long but nothing flows constantly. One second I'm walking where I need to go and the next I'm already there. Does this happen? and is there a faster/better way to programe my mind into doing more reality checks that will passover into the dreamworld?
      3. I'm scared of trying the SP thing. Is there a way to overcome it?
      4. Also before sleep, I keep telling myself I will dream and realise I'm dreaming. However it does not seem to work for me. Is there anything else that I can do?

      Many thanks people!

I've heard it works for some people, but it gives me a headache and it sounds... retarded.

If you are more actively aware in real life you will be more actively aware in dreams, so be more aware in real life and then you will become lucid more.
For example while typing this I am aware of the fact of the feeling of my feet on the ground.
      3. I'm scared of trying the SP thing. Is there a way to overcome it?
Nop, you probably will feel it, but it's completely natural and if you hate it, there are other techniques you can try.
      4. Also before sleep, I keep telling myself I will dream and realise I'm dreaming. However it does not seem to work for me. Is there anything else that I can do?
It won't work all the time, if you try it with WBTB it can be more effective, other things you can try include All day awareness, reality checks when weird stuff happens.

      Hi there, welcome to DV!

Spend some time looking through the other tutorials on the site and you should find some other lucidity techniques which could help you. However it sounds like you're doing the right things so far; your recall is good (keep going with the journal), and keep up the RC's, it takes time for them to start incorporating into your dreams.

      1. The science is shaky to say the least, so probably not. But ask other people on this forum and they will tell you that they work, so who knows.

      2. Most dreams are bizarre and lack a logical flow of events, so don't worry. However if you keep practising your RC it will eventually turn up in your dreams. I would also recommend that when performing your RC, really, really concentrate on your surroundings and be very mindful of how you are feeling and experiencing everything. Even try to imagine what things would be like if you were actually dreaming. Eventually this mindfulness will appear in your dreams and you will find yourself questioning the dream more often.

      3. I don't know what precisely you're talking about here, maybe WILD? But anyway, sleep paralysis is nothing to be afraid of, you will not suffer any physical harm. It's just an interesting new experience.

      4. This technique has never worked for me either, I'm afraid, so I can't give you much advice. Just stick with the dream journal and reality checks and I'm sure things will work out.

Hope this has been a tiny bit helpful and I haven't just repeated stuff you already know.

Feel free to ask any more questions of us, and have fun at DV!

      Thanks guys!

The music thing was just weird. I don't think stuff like that affects me, but it did something last night. I want to create the trigger that when I look at my watch, it makes me perform a RC and question reality. Is this possible and what are the most effective RC's?

One last thing, in my dreams, I am in first person mode. However, when I think of a dream I had after, I sometimes see it in third person. Does this mean anything? Or am I just being weird..

Yes, looking at your watch is a common RC in itself actually, not just a trigger for an RC. In a dream the numbers on your watch may be blurry or confused, or the hands may be crazy etc. etc. Anyway that should work as an RC or RC trigger.

In my opinion the most effective RC is holding your nose shut. This is because if you do this in your dream, you will always keep breathing, as breathing is not an illusion in the dream and is just exactly how you are breathing in real life, while you're sleeping in your bed. So it's pretty much a very effective RC if you actually manage to perform it in a dream. Other RCs aren't as effective because they may not always work; for example if you look at your watch in a dream it may just seem perfectly normal. Or if you try to hover in a dream it may just not work. In both cases your RC fails.

Not sure about the third person thing, but I don't think it's a big deal as long as it's not affecting your recall.

Reality checks are best paired with dream signs. Make a list of common environments, people, and activities that frequently appear in your dreams. Whenever you encounter or think of those things in real life, perform a reality check.

Yeah I normally seem to dream about my work place after I've worked there. So will probably have one tonight. Man, I really want to experience this. Is it possible to get an object of some sort and use that as your RC? Think Inception?
