      Vitamin B6

This weekend I decided to try using b6 to enhance my dreams. Saturday night I tried taking 200mg (in the studies they used 250mg so it seemed like a reasonable dose) about an hour before I went to bed. Evidently that was too much because I was extremely restless and could not fall asleep, my head was so clouded with random thoughts that I could focus on my mantra. When I woke up the next day I could barely remember bits and pieces of my dreams, however the parts I could remember did seem to be very vivid. After about an hour of being awake I suddenly remembered an extremely vivid dream. Last night I tried lowering the dose to 100mg about an 40 minutes before going to bed and it was the exact same story: I couldn't fall asleep, I woke up with only fragments of dreams, and I suddenly remembered a dream after about an hour. I think my problem is because I can't focus on the mantra I wont wake up until the morning, so I end up forgetting the dreams anyways, would taking B6 during the day still achieve the same effect, or dose it have to be close to when you sleep? also any general advice on this topic would be great appreciated

I don't know much about taking B6 outside of naturally getting it from food.
In your case, I would suggest that instead of relying on a mantra to wake up, set an alarm to wake you up at a 90 min interval from the approximated time you went to sleep (about 10 minutes after laying down in bed, possibly longer for you). If you don't wake up from a dream, the next night set your alarm for 5 minutes earlier and repeat this every night until you wake up from a dream (this means you have to go to bed at a constant time every night)
Also, it's okay to have random thoughts while going to sleep, the trick with that is to try not to force yourself to have a clear head, juts let them flow around and you'll be asleep in no time.

Good luck and happy dreaming ^__^

Normally I use a mantra something along the lines of "i'm going to wake up after each dream and I'm going to have a lucid dream" which normally I just recite that over and over and it will be the only thought in my head, and I just drift off and wake up between dreams. When I tried taking B6 my head felt bogged down with other thoughts and I completely forgot my mantra, I think its just the b6 keeping me awake

You may need to lower the dose in that case. When I take 50mg I dont notice much difference, recall is perhaps 15% better. 100mg recall is about 25% better, but my dreams have a lot more depth. I think 100 is my limit, I done 150 once and didnt recall anything when I woke, I want to try again though, incase it was a fluke.
Take 50-100, or even 75 if you can break the pills - a minute or two before you hit the sheets.
If you cant let go of your thoughts then maybe you need to look up some meditation techniques, just to ease your mind and not focus on distracting thoughts.

I always take it just before I go to bed, and the dosage I use is between 100-200 mg. I never have trouble falling asleep once I've taken it, and increases my dream vividness and length especially. However it quickly lose its effects, even if I only take it weekly. I suggest you use it twice a month tops for maximum effect, and take it just before bed Remember that no supplement guarantees the effects it claims to give. You'll have a higher chance of having a clear and long dream, but it's not a guarantee. Good luck!

Personally, I found B6 to do nothing for me most days. I took it in a generic Costco muti-vitamin.

However, the few days in which it did actually do something, it REALLY increased the vividness of my dreamstate. Like the most vivid dream I've ever had before, regarding the immersion of all the senses simultaneously.

I'd keep at it for awhile, but I'd suggest not taking it every day, as I've heard you grow "accustomed" to it or something. I could be completely wrong with this though, going off what someone else has told me. Let's see what others have to say on the matter.

I stopped using B6 for the last few days just to make sure it wasn't general insomnia. I'll try taking it right before hitting the sheets tonight, thanks for the advice

My experience with B6 has been really great, but I think I'm doing completely different from you. I take a vitamin that has 104% the daily recommended intake which according to the bottle is only 2.6 mg, every night. I didn't have any immediate success, but after a week of taking it, I started being able to recall all my dreams in great detail, not just one but sometimes 4 or more a night. I've taken it up to about 3 months at a time every night and didn't have any trouble with it stopping working or keeping me awake. Maybe if the big doses are giving you trouble, you could try much smaller doses over a period of time?

My combination that worked rather well on basis is
      B-12: 2500 mcg
      B6: 200 mg
      L-Tryptophan: 500 mg
      Melatonin 3 mg
Followed by a banana which if i remember has more b vitamins.

I've thought of saving the b-12 for when I wakeup, it does make me feel more alert, but not enough that i couldn't go back to sleep.... which may be good for getting a vivid dream. I'll let ya know how that goes.
