New guy

Hello all,

I found the main dreamviews website through a google search after a friend of mine asked me if I had ever had a lucid dream. I got curious and decided to look into it and read all the information there. Lo and behold, I think I've had a few lucid dreams before. There are some instances where when I was younger, I remember dreaming and simply saying for something to appear and it would. Does that qualify as a lucid dream? :? It never really dawned on me until I read the part about simply saying what you want to happen.

Anyway, intros...should've done this first. :wink: My real name is Bryan, I'm 18 and am going to college this fall. I'm a band geek and heavily addicted to my piano. I love science fiction, especially Stargate (incase the user name didn't give it away) and Star Wars. Other than that, I'm pretty boring. :-P I'm a pretty open person, so if you ever want to IM me, feel free to do so. Just mention where you got my screen name from though. :wink:

Well thats a tricky one. Not neccessarily consitutes as a lucid dream because this type of dream scenerio can happen in a regular dream. Remember Lucid Dreaming is total awareness. Its a possibility that it could've been a Lucid dream, Do you remember if you were aware that it was a dream. And if you were aware then YES Lucid Dream all the way...

It was a few years ago, but if thinking "that's not normal" and then making things appear at will qualifies as being lucid, then I guess so. :D

i watched sg-1 as well but im not gonna this season cause richard dean anderson left he was the heart of the show (macgyver also kicks ass if anyones a fan of that)

Gargen, yes, Rick was the main character of the show, but he will *possibly* come back for other episodes in a gues role. Nothing determined yet, but still, give it a chance. SG has lasted for nine years, I doubt they're going to ruin it this far into the game.

Iriscream...I'll spare you my Trek speech only because you enjoy the piano as well. :-P As for what I play, well, I'm pretty much on my own. I took lessons for a few years, but my teacher left and never told anyone and I was on my own. By then, I was in high school and marching band became my life with no time for much of anything else. I started playing again last summer and pretty much have it back. I stay away from "classical stuff" as I call it, mainly because I'm just not crazy about it, but my band director said I should try it. I tend to play whatever I like. I've got a big book of stuff by Michael W. Simth (who is really awesome), Only Hope, some Christmas stuff...just whatever suits me. I tried Rhapsody in Blue onece and figured I'll wait a few years before I try that again. Gershwin must've been drunk when he wrote that. Anyway, enough rambling. :wink:

I used to play piano...i taught myself out of a book when i was twelve, played solidly for about two years, then had to give it up due to the pressure of school work.
I can't play now, but i can still read music, and i hope to get back into it someday.
Rhapsody in Blue is a wonderful tune...i haven't heard that for a long, long time.
I tended to play more modern pieces...piano versions of my favourite pop songs, or folk tunes with nice melodies...classical i just found waaay too difficult...although i've always wanted to learn the Moonlight Sonata...

According to my band director (who also plays piano) classical music builds technique and the modern pop music doesn't. I have a book called "Classical Movie Themes" or something like that (I'll check on the title when my girlfriend gives it back) and it's just classical music that has been featured in movies. It's not too bad. I'd recommend it.

And going back to dreaming here... About this whole dream recall thing, I never wake up from my dreams unless it's something that is either really shocking or completly abnormal, so I'm unsure how to go about "training" myself to wake up. Some mornings I'll wake up knowing that I dreamed, but am unable to recall what happened, but just knowing that I had a dream. Later in the day, I'll do something or think of something and it all comes back. Is that something worth putting into a dream journal or do you have to be fresh out of the dream in order for it to be accurate so to speak?

well, they say you can train yourself to wake up in a REM phase with an alarm clock, but i found that didn't work for me at all...just made me grouchy and overtired...
And with regard to remembering a dream first thing in the morning, and remembering it later in the day...
I often have done this...woken up in the morning with an 'empty head' so to speak, been very disappointed that i haven't remembered anything...
Fast forward eight hours when i could be talking to a mate of mine...i'll stop mid sentence, because i've remembered, in full, what i was dreaming about. it's like some kind of 'association switch'.
Perhaps you could try carrying your dream journal around with you?
You do keep a dream journal right? They are imperative to improved recall i think. I mean, i have always been a natural recaller, writing them down just allows me to put things in order.
There is a facility on here which allows you to document and record your dreams, an online dream journal.
I keep a handwritten one by my bed, and then transcribe the dreams from there into my Dream Journal on here.
Check it out if you like, and if you decide to set one up, i look forward to reading it!

Well, if recalling it later in the day counts, I'll be sure to start writing them down. And yes, I'm going to start a dream journal here. :)

just remember, if in the beginning your recall seems sketchy, don't worry. write down everything you can remember at the time. It's often the case that when you begin writing something down, a whole load of other suggestions come crashing into your head...in my case, that happens in such a way, that some mornings i can't get it down fast enough!
And also, by beginning to write them down, your brain makes the association between you writing it down, and your brain remembering it...it's a self perpetuating cycle, see?

Interesting. Looks like I'll be visiting Wal Mart for a notebook today. Do you have any advice for waking yourslef up during a REM cycle that doesn't involve alarm clocks or drinking two gallons of water before going to bed? :wink:

I'm also a big Sci-Fi fan -- I love SG-1 and Atlantis, as well as Battlestar Galactica. And I'm also huge Trek fan -- so no nasty speeches about that, please! :P

For me, the best way to ensure that I wake up after a dream is to simply tell myself that I'm going to. Just repeat to yourself "I will wake up after I dream, and I will remember my dream" as you're lying in bed trying to fall asleep. This works 80-90% of the time for me.

Keeping a notebook near your bed is an excellent idea also. Good luck, and let us know how you progress, and if you have any other questions.

Ok, here's a question about having a lucid dream. Are they like normal dreams which will fade if you don't wake up and record them, or will you remember them clearly the next morning?

they are just like normal dreams...except for the fact that you realise you are dreaming and are able to control all aspects of the dreamscape...ie things like places and people...
They do 'fade' if you begin to lose lucidity within the dream, although i've woken up from a lucid dream and remembered every single detail, so in my experience it's just as easy to recall a lucid dream as it is to recall a non-lucid one.
