There are many ways to have your first lucid dream. The most important thing for starters is to make a dream journal, there is one here on the site you can use or you could just get a notebook and jot your dreams down. The reason for this is that writting down your dreams improves your dream recall. If you don't remember your dreams then you won't remember your lucid ones either. Barry pretty much covered the bases in terms of a solid starting point (start a journal, choose an induction technique). Alot of beginners choose DILD or MILD, but it's up to you and your preferences, sleep schedule and such that become the main factors in how you choose the technique that's right for you. And never hesitate to ask us for help if you have any more questions. And definitely post your progress!

If you want you can try a DEILD (dream exit induced lucid dream). I still haven't had mine but I thought that would be a good place to start on top of a MILD or DILD
