Getting Started
I've used numerous psycedelic and dissociative drugs in thje past for various reasons and now I want to try lucid dreaming, I started reading about this last night and woke up in the morning and suddenly remembered, "Hey hold on...I dreamed last night...TWICE!"..and nearly booted myself on not remembering one of them (ccan't remember which one came first lmao)..it was like a mixture of Star Wars and World of Warcraft..how I didn't realise I was dreaming I don't know...with all the drug use nothing seems to suprise me...I have started a dream journal and I'm doing the reality check every now and again to make sure I'm awake. I've noticed that during periods that I have used drugs that I won't remember any of my dreams, and when i have waned off them for few weeks I started to remember them again...strange..... ....well does anyone have any tips on things I should try just to help me remember my dreams or to realise I'm dreaming, I haven't noticed many dream cues, meaby I should try and record more in a hope to notice more patterns? Also is there anything I should try to do just before going to sleep, like thinking about lucid dreams, or reality checks? Any help at all is appreciated.

okay, sounds to me like drugs are messing with your recall, you've said it yourself...if i drink, i don't dream, simple.
With regard to recall, you don't say how long you've been documenting your dreams...if you've only just started, it can take a couple of months before you begin to notice recurring themes, and i found it helped me to look back over my dreamjournal in order to spot them more effectively.
In helping to remember your dreams, i find this quite effective: Before you go to bed, simply tell yourself that after you have had a dream, you will wake up and remember it. In the beginning, you might not wake up till the morning, and you might remember bits of a dream, or how you felt. Write this down, it all helps.
As your brain gets used to the suggestion, your recall should improve, and you may find yourself waking in the middle of the night from a dream. If you can wake up enough, write it down there and then, because chances are you'll go back to sleep, and dream about something else, and not remember the second one.
I can make myself remember dreams after waking up without writing them down, but they're never as detailed as they should be, as the second dream tends to crowd the first one.
A good reality check i've heard about is if you are lying in your bed, ask yourself if you are dreaming...False Awakenings sometimes manifest themselves as you waking up from a dream, lying in bed. Except you're actually still asleep!
Hope this helps!
By the way, welcome to DV!

Thanks for the help mate. I haven't used in a few months and normally takes about a week or two for my recall to get back into order, I've been recording from yesterday morning.

okay, just keep writing everything down, and keep me posted on how you get on!
